Hyun-Jin Ryu Whiffs Eight In Opening Day Victory
6 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed just one earned run and four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts across six innings in a victory in his first Opening Day start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. He threw 59 of his 82 pitches for strikes while recording 16 first-pitch strikes to the 22 batters he faced. With Clayton Kershaw injured and Walker Buehler not quite healthy enough to make the start, Ryu channeled his inner Kershaw, Orel Hershiser, Fernando Valenzuela and Sandy Koufax to get it done on Thursday. It also helps the Dodgers posted eight home runs of support. Next up is a start against Madison Bumgarner and the rival San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
