6 years agoHouston Astros starter Justin Verlander allowed one run in seven innings of dominant work as the Astros beat the Twins 5-2 on Tuesday. Verlander (14-8) struck out eight hitters while allowing only three hits in his best pitching performance in over a month. After a lights-out first half of the season, Verlander has slowed down a touch and is 5-4 with a 3.93 ERA over his last nine starts. Opposing hitters are batting .261 during that span after Verlander held opponents to a .184 average in the first half. But there are definite signs that he has shaken loose of his recent mini-slump and will enter the final weeks of the season as an elite fantasy option.--Joey C - RotoBaller
