4 years agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore battled his control and command in summer camp, which is likely why pitching prospect Luis Patino got the call first, but the young left-hander has looked better at the team's alternate training site and is the best pitching prospect in baseball. Gore is MLB Pipeline's No. 5 overall prospect in 2020, and the Friars still need a No. 5 starter. The 21-year-old was always a good bet to make his big league debut in 2020, even with COVID-19 shortening the season to 60 games. He had a sparkling 1.69 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 101 innings in the minors last season.
