MLB Draft Will Be Only Five Rounds

4 years agoThe 2020 Major League Baseball draft will only be five rounds, according to sources. All of the players who go undrafted will be eligible to sign for a maximum of $20,000. There was a proposal to the union for the draft to extend to 10 rounds, but the sides couldn't come to an agreement. A typical first-year player draft is 40 rounds, plus compensatory picks, so this year's draft will obviously be a much smaller affair due to COVID-19. There will be a small influx of talent to minor league systems in 2020 because of this, but there could be some nice values had with undrafted free agents that don't return to college for another year of eligibility.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
