7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies increased their offer to the Baltimore Orioles for shortstop Manny Machado on Friday, but it's unclear what exactly they are offering. If they do a deal including both Machado and closer Zach Britton, they'll have to pay a higher price in talent. Philadelphia is reluctant to part with their top prospect, Sixto Sanchez. On the big league roster, they could deal third baseman Maikel Franco and/or outfielder Aaron Altherr. Machado is one of the best all-around players in the game this year, but the Phillies don't want to give up too much for a player that will be a free agent this winter. Machado's fantasy value is already extremely high, but he could see his numbers improve playing for a contender like Philadelphia. Britton started the year late due to an Achilles injury and wasn't sharp upon returning, but he has been much better of late. If he lands in Philadelphia, he'd likely be the main ninth-inning guy, which would be bad news for Seranthony Dominguez and Victor Arano.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
