7 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are expected to lose out on Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado, but they won't lie still exiting the All-Star break just a half game up on the Braves in the National League East. The Phillies are now targeting Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas and Minnesota Twins third baseman Eduardo Escobar as they look for an upgrade to the left side of their infield. Moustakas primarily plays third base, but Escobar has some experience at shortstop. Moustakas has 19 long balls and a .772 OPS, while Escobar has an .834 OPS and an MLB-high 35 doubles this year. Both will be free agents after this year. With Maikel Franco, J.P. Crawford and Scott Kingery struggling at the plate, it makes sense for the Phils to seek an upgrade. Moustakas and Escobar have been good for their fantasy owners in the first half, but they'd become more intriguing on a contending team if they were traded. A trade of either player would likely hurt Franco the most in Philadelphia.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
