Whit Merrifield Excelling In August

4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield has been flourishing as the team's leadoff hitter this month. He's reached base in all but two of the team's games and is hitting .325 over the month. He's also added three home runs and five stolen bases. Merrifield is one of the top table-setters in the majors and is someone who you can rely upon for steady help in batting average, hits and runs with at least one stolen base a week. He's slugging a career-best .505 this year. His HR/FB rate of 13.5% is a bit of an alarming jump from last year's clip of 8.7%, so don't expect his current home run rate to remain, but regardless, he's a top tier second baseman who will continue to carry you going forward.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
