RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - ZOZO Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Close calls have been the name of the game for me in this OAD contest, as Tyrrell Hatton was unable to get himself across the finish line over the weekend at Shadow Creek. His payout did add onto my total $565,500, but it most likely won't be enough since I am still down nearly 2.3 million dollars. Josh found himself in a similar situation with a surging Bubba Watson, but victories are the only way out of this hole we have dug ourselves into.

There are just four tournaments left in this 2020 contest, and the clock is just about to strike midnight. Can either of us strike up a formula to give ourselves a chance? Or is Joe's victory a foregone conclusion? Let's find out who the guys are selecting to get some answers.

One and Done Selections - ZOZO Championship

Joe NicelyTyrrell Hatton

Alternate - Joaquin Niemann

How disastrous was my Matthew Wolff last week? I’m not gonna lie, a pick going that wrong can shake your confidence in a hurry...especially when it comes on the heels of a Harris English missed cut at the Shriners.

Luckily, I still have a lead in this OAD contest with the season winding down, although Spencer and Josh don’t seem to be willing to go down without a fight. I’m gonna try to land a haymaker this week with Tyrrell Hatton, a scrapper if I’ve ever seen one. The Englishman has been white hot as of late, notching a victory at the BMW in Europe two weeks ago and posting a T3 last week at the CJ Cup. I am a bit worried about the fatigue factor with Hatton, but it is tough to ignore a player that gained over NINE strokes on Approach last week at Shadow Creek. We’re making some educated guesses as to how this week’s Sherwood Country Club layout will play, but we can expect plenty of long irons to be required...an area where Hatton thrives

Spencer Aguiar - Viktor Hovland

Alternate - Scottie Scheffler

I am playing a numbers game right now. Down nearly 2.3 million with only four events left is not promising, but I have a total in mind (1.5 million) that I would like to be at entering the Masters. If I can get there, which isn't very likely, watch out. Bryson is coming.

Part of the issue with my plan is that next week's Bermuda Championship pays less than some of my wagers. I know I've been accused of tampering with Joe's players while they were in Las Vegas, but what is this schedule? No-cut event after no-cut event. Payouts that equal a birdie in my Skins game. Joe is running out the clock with the refs in his back pocket.

Unfortunately, options are thin for me in California, as I have used the top-11 priced golfers on the board. I believe any conventional wisdom is out the window since I need a victory, but I can't find a "safer" spot to go than Viktor Hovland. Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa have a ton of win equity sprinkled between them, and I feel like my best course of action is to take the discounted version of those two and hope he catches fire with his putter for a few days. The deck seems to be stacked against me, but I will continue to count cards for as long as this is mathematically possible to do so.

Josh Bennett - Matthew Wolff

Alternate - Russell Henley

Joe whiffed on Wolff last week, so now is a great time to jump on him in a perfect bounce-back spot. Spencer still has him available and wouldn’t be surprised if he used him as well, but we’re mostly worried about how to catch Joe right now. The popular saying with Wolff this week is that it’s a “home game” for him. That’s great, and maybe it helps? However, there are plenty of guys that play poorly at courses they are familiar with or live near too, so I am not using that as my reasoning for using him, although I hope it is helpful.

After looking over the course, I think this place will really favor a long hitter that also plays well from the 175-200 yard range. The long hitter part is obvious by now for Wolff. He should have a significant advantage there on all the par 5’s and a handful of par 4’s. The majority of the other holes will leave him with shots in the yardage range I mentioned earlier. Although he isn’t spectacular in proximity from that range, you don’t necessarily need to be when the greens are large like they are here. Birdies are hard to come by anyway from that far away, so I’m more concerned about being able to get it on the green and make par.

A guy with his length will be able to make up birdies on many other holes. I looked over at the GIR % from the 175-200 range and Wolff pops into the top 15 in 2020 in that statistic, so he’ll give himself tons of chances for birdie (even if they’re long chances), and easy finishes for par. One thing I will trust with his experience on the course is knowing the greens, which I think gives him a leg up on putting, so if he’s consistently getting the ball onto the green he shouldn’t have any problems at minimum walking away with easy pars on those holes. If he can get lucky and roll a few of the longer ones in, I think there’s a chance he could even run away with this thing.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - CJ Cup

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

It was a quiet weekend on the OAD front for our crew at the Shriners Open, as I was the only member that earned a payday with Joaquin Niemann's 13th place result in Vegas. Unfortunately, chipping away at Joe's lead isn't going to get the job done, and the prospects continue to look bleaker and bleaker for Josh and I with each passing event.

We do have a substantial purse up for grabs during our second league of the Vegas stretch, but the time to make a move will have to be now. With a field barely over 70 players, options are slightly more condensed to choose from because of what has transpired early in the season, and it will be interesting to see where the guys decide to go for one of the bigger tournaments left on the schedule.

One and Done Selections - CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek

Joe Nicely - Matthew Wolff

Alternate - Louis Oosthuizen

Ok, so I'm coming off my first complete and total misfire in awhile, as Harris English missed the cut last week at the Shriners. The player that I should have rolled with last week was Matthew Wolff, a young man whose game looked absolutely electric at TPC Summerlin.

Perhaps I'm a week late, but I'm not letting this kid pass me by again. If I go down for a second time in Vegas (this is Spencer's home court after all, so it's possible that he tampered with Harris English's equipment last week), it's gonna be swinging with Matty Wolff.

He's ridiculously long off the tee, which will come in handy on this 7,500-plus yard Shadow Creek masterpiece, but the 21-year-old has also been firing on all cylinders with his irons and has gained over six strokes on Approach in his last two starts. In addition to the ball striking, Wolff's touch around the greens continues to evolve, and he stands sixth in this elite field in SG: ATG over the last 12 rounds.

This might not be the most creative pick I've ever made in this contest, but it is one that I'm making with a truckload of conviction. I'm rolling the dice on Wolff and betting that he leaves Sin City as the week's big winner.

Spencer Aguiar - Tyrrell Hatton

Alternate - Scottie Scheffler

Man, what I would give to cancel the Tour Championship from this contest. Not only did it result in Joe earning a 1.665 million dollar "victory" with Xander Schauffele, but it also took away Rory McIlroy from my player pool. If you have the Irishman left at your disposal, it will have to be here or the Masters, and I would lean towards this being the ideal spot to use your big gun.

Sadly, that option is off the table for me, and it has resulted in a last-minute switch-up that I didn't anticipate making. These have never historically gone well in recent memory, but I've decided to deploy Tyrrell Hatton over Scottie Scheffler. I have to assume Joe is going to rollout Matthew Wolff, and it just seemed to be more logical of a decision to take the guy coming into the event off of a win than playing the guy who just missed the cut.

Hatton has won three of his last 13 worldwide events, and while this is clearly a swing for the fence and hope for the best situation, I feel as if there may be a better location to play Scheffler at down the stretch. Hatton's starts on tour might be limited, and it probably doesn't make sense for me to leave the 10th-ranked player in the world on my board when I am down nearly three million dollars.

Josh Bennett - Bubba Watson

Alternate - Gary Woodland

After Rickie’s slip up last week I’m pretty sure there’s no chance I can catch Joe now, but we’re sure going to try! Going to need some weird things to happen, so hopefully that starts with Bubba winning another golf tournament.

We’ve learned that Bubba is only good on “Bubba tracks”, but he’s actually been playing good all over the place recently which is a good sign heading into a place where they haven’t played an event before. The course will favor a long hitter, and with Bubba’s ability to move the ball in both directions he should be able to take some angles down the fairways that others won’t be able to.

He’s also great with longer irons in his hands which will benefit him on a course where half the holes will require a shot over 175 yards to the green. His game around the green is not good, but if he can just have an above average week near and on the greens we will see his name near the top of the leaderboard. Hopefully it’s at the very top of the leaderboard, I need it.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Shriners Open

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Last weekend turned into a bit of a debacle with my selection of Sungjae Im, as I didn't realize I had already taken him earlier in the season at the Travelers Championship. I don't even have a good excuse for doing that with the event taking place after the restart, but I did catch a small break with Charley Hoffman's sixth-place finish being my alternate choice.

Unfortunately, not much changed at the top of the leaderboard for Josh and I after Joe earned a respectable $46,200 out of Doc Redman, and you can't help but feel as if this contest has been over for the last few weeks. However, with all that being said, you just never know. Josh has tried to sneak in Webb Simpson about four times throughout the year-long contest, and I have proven to be successful in terms of double-dipping in each of the past two seasons - (Brooks Koepka at the 2019 Tour Championship).  We will have to see if either one of us can pull off the bait-and-switch when it matters most.

One and Done Selections - Shriners

Joe Nicely - Harris English

Alternate - Cameron Smith

The Shriners has morphed into one of the best events on the Swing Season schedule on an annual basis. This year it boasts its strongest-ever field as players prepare for the first leg of back-to-back tournaments in Las Vegas (the CJ Cup will be held at Shadow Creek next week).

Unfortunately for me, most of the elite options at the top of the board are no longer available to me in this marathon of an OAD contest. Guys like Bryson, Webb, Cantlay, and Morikawa are long gone for Team J-Nice. As a result, I’m going with a player who has been posting elite results, even though he doesn’t have quite the name recognition of some of the other stars in the field.

Harris English has been perhaps the most consistent golfer in the world this year. The Georgia Bulldog (Yuck! Go Vols!) made 18 of 20 cuts in the 2019-20 season with six top-10 finishes among those and he heads to Vegas on the heels of an impressive fourth-place showing in the U.S. Open. This week’s TPC Summerlin layout fits English’s precise, fairways-and-greens style perfectly and he logged a T4 on this layout back in 2017.

Spencer Aguiar - Joaquin Niemann Jason Day

Alternate - Scottie Scheffler

I am in a position where I have to shoot for the moon and hope for the best with every selection. To me, that means upside golfers, and I feel as if my two best choices are Scottie Scheffler or Joaquin Niemann after already playing Hideki Matsuyama, Webb Simpson, Patrick Cantlay and Sungjae Im (twice).

I realize we have a disparity in pricing for DFS and Vegas between these two, but I wouldn't look at that too closely when making your selection. Niemann is a golfer that should be 35-40/1 in this field, and I do think we are relatively close to what is proper on Scheffler. I have decided to save the American for somewhere else down the stretch and will try to grab him in a spot where he is back clicking on all cylinders after missing a few weeks with COVID.

Niemann is an intriguing choice for a few reasons. His ability to make birdies in bunches is rivaled by very few golfers in the world, and it shouldn't hurt his chances that Bentgrass has historically been the only surface he has been a positive expected putter per round. It will be important for the 47th-ranked player in the world to improve his par-five scoring output if he wants to compete for a title, but Niemann's long iron ability could quickly turn his scoring trajectory around if he can locate the fairway off the tee.

Josh Bennett - Rickie Fowler

Alternate - Matthew Wolff

Coming down to the wire here and I need a couple W’s to have a chance. I don’t have many big shots left, but I have a couple that can hopefully work some magic. Unfortunately, at the moment I’m not sure we can classify Rickie as a “big shot” based on his poor recent form (for a big shot’s standards, anyway), but he’s been re-tooling his swing a bit and has had some time off so I have a feeling his game could be in really good shape. Or, it could be in even worse shape. Either way, it’s a good play for me, he’s typically a world class player and in normal Rickie form he could top 5 this event with no problem (as he showed in 2018).

Good iron players and good putters are who I targeted this week in all other contests, and we know by know that Rickie is one of the best putters on tour and when he’s good it’s because of his irons and his putter. Needing a couple really good weeks in a row here, hopefully Rickie gets us started on the right foot.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Sanderson Farms Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Last week's Corales Puntacana was definitely the weakest field we've seen in months, but we managed to put together some solid choices. I went with the young gun, Will Zalatoris, and he overcame a sluggish start to grab a share of eighth place for $117k. Spencer wasn't far behind, with his selection, Patrick Rodgers, posting a solid T11 that added $97k to Spencer's second-place total. Josh didn't have as much luck unfortunately, as Kristoffer Ventura was only able to bring in $9,580 for Team Jish.

This week's Sanderson Farms Championship has settled in as a "Swing Season" staple over the last decade. While the field isn't elite, it is certainly a huge upgrade over last week's available selections at Corales. Let's see who everyone is rolling with this week in Jackson!

One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a second season.

For an in-depth breakdown of the top DraftKings and FanDuel plays, check out Joe Nicely's weekly Horse For The Course that highlights the best fits for the week's course. And you can also find out who the smart money is on by checking out Spencer Aguiar's PGA DFS: Vegas Report every week. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

One and Done Selections - Sanderson Farms Championship

Joe Nicely - Doc Redman

Alternate - Zach Johnson

We all know that these "Swing Season" events can be slim pickens when it comes to field strength. However, this week's Sanderson Farms Championships presents us with a handful of really strong options at the top of the board. Unfortunately for me, I've already used them in this contest, with names like Scheffler, Im, Burns, and even Zalatoris off the board for me.

In the absence of being able to choose one of this week's "elite" options, I'm rolling with one of the most explosive players that will be teeing it up in Jackson this week. Doc Redman brings a little volatility into play - he's missed three of 10 cuts since the restart - but I'm excited about the potential upside. Doc has posted T3 finishes in two of his last three starts and was last seen dropping a blistering final-round 62 at the Safeway Open earlier this month.

It's easy to forget that Redman is just 22-years-old...and with youth comes some inconsistency. However, it feels like a win is coming sooner rather than later for this young man and perhaps it will happen on this Country Club of Jackson layout that is annually a shootout.

Yearly Earnings - $7,748,882

Spencer Aguiar - Sungjae Im

Alternate - Charley Hoffman

I'd normally go with something a little more contrarian than Sungjae Im for the position I am currently in entering the week, but part of the skill in these contests is understanding who your opponents have left. A larger OAD might dictate going down an abnormal route, but I will take my guarantee of being the only member of this group that has Sungjae Im at his disposal.

Look, I'd feel a lot better if I could grab the South Korean in a situation where he was playing steadier golf entering the event, but I need upside at this stage and will live with whatever Im provides from a production standpoint.

The 22-year-old has gained a combined 10.2 strokes with his irons in his previous two events, giving me hope that his game might finally be turning around after a cold restart. It shouldn't hurt matters that Im has done most of his damage on Bermuda greens in the past, and I am willing to swing blindly for the sake of this contest. If you are in a similar position for your OAD, I would assume you will most likely need to go down a different route. Look at how many times a golfer has been used by the field and try to make the most educated guess you can for how aggressive you will need to get to mount a comeback.

Yearly Earnings - $4,635,975

Yearly Cuts Made - 21/27

Josh Bennett - Will Zalatoris

Alternate - Doc Redman

It seems as though this Will Zalatoris guy is pretty good at golf. Time will tell if he will be consistently good on the PGA Tour or if this is just a crazy good hot streak, but either way I’m going to hop on the bandwagon and hope he keeps it going for one more week. He’s been playing solid golf all-around, so in a field of players that are “specialty” guys, it’s a good time to take a chance on a guy that seems to do just about everything well. He should continue to be motivated as well since continued good play will give him that many more chances to get into PGA fields. Unlike a lot of my other ramblings through stats and reasons in past write-ups, I’m just keeping it simple for this week and rolling with a guy that’s just playing really good all-around golf.

Yearly Cuts Made - 23/27

Head-To-Head Selection

Hudson Swafford -110 over Rory Sabbatini

Reasons I Liked the Play:

Most people are taking Hudson Swafford's victory at Corales Puntacana to be an aberrational result, but I am not. Swafford was included in last week's premium top-20 recommendations during my Vegas Report article, and the alumni out of the University of Georgia continues to be an underrated commodity this weekend in Jackson, Mississippi. Rory Sabbatini is getting a little too much credit for his two top-60 finishes here in his last two attempts, and the five consecutive showings outside the top-59 are starting to present a poor case for the 107th-ranked player in the world.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

This is a much bigger recommendation than I typically suggest for this article and only is being included here because of the selection I have on tap in my Vegas Report. For all intents and purposes, this wager qualifies as a premium head-to-head bet. If we are looking for any negatives, Swafford isn't exactly a beacon of consistency, but I am willing to overlook those flaws because of Sabbatini's statistical atrocity as of late. I'd have priced this correctly at -140, meaning we are gaining around a six percent edge in terms of implied probability.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Corales Puntacana

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Well, I can't say I am surprised by Jon Rahm's meltdown at the U.S. Open after not using him for the Memorial and BMW Championship. I missed out on both of those victories to get a sloppy share of 23rd at Winged Foot, and that move will get compounded since it caused me to save Bryson DeChambeau for the Masters and not play him in New York. I have to say...this contest has just been one of those things where I can't get anything to go right.

Joe, on the other hand, maintained his sizable lead with a share of eighth place from Tony Finau, and I know Josh had to be disappointed by Justin Thomas' weekend meltdown that placed him in a position where he could only match our leader with his $302,236 payday.

One and Done Selections - Corales Puntacana

Joe Nicely -Will Zalatoris

Alternate - Kristoffer Ventura

I’ve tried to play the last couple of months of this OAD contest with “no fear” and I’m going to stick to that mantra this week in the Corales Puntacana Championship, an event with a field that looks like it was randomly picked out of a “Are we sure this guy is a PGA Tour player? Ok good, let’s get him in!” hat.

In a field composed mainly of veteran journeymen and young up-and-comers, I’m going with a player that has perhaps the brightest future of them all...Will Zalatoris. “Willie Z” is a player that hardcore golf fans have been keeping an eye on, but he put his name in the general public’s consciousness last week with an impressive T6 finish at the U.S. Open. This kid is no one-hit wonder, as he’s flat-out dominated the Korn Ferry Tour this season, posting a win and 10 (!) top-10s in just 16 starts

Yearly Earnings - $7,631,882

Yearly Cuts Made - 22/26

Spencer Aguiar - Patrick Rodgers

Alternate - Kristoffer Ventura

Can I get a 50/50 call correct? Let's try this weekend by taking Patrick Rodgers over Kristoffer Ventura. I essentially need to shoot for the moon at this point, and I am not sure I can risk Joe (or even Josh) matching my selection. That places me in a position to grab a player that I am relatively sure won't be chosen by either, and I believe Rodgers' lack of support in all markets provides us an opportunity to acquire the American for outstanding value across the board.

A slight slip-up from the 192nd-ranked player in the world has seen him fail to crack the top-45 over his past three contests, but I don't want to get caught up in this narrative of saying that he is trending downwards. Rodgers has made six cuts in a row, and the weekend implosions during the Northern Trust and Wyndham Championship aren't something that I want to hold against him too harshly.

The 28-year-old becomes the third-player in my model when I stretch out his results to the Workday Charity Open, and while I do believe Ventura is a much safer option for those that are searching for a payday, I am going to go for broke and hope for the best.

Yearly Earnings - $4,542,975

Yearly Cuts Made - 20/26

Josh Bennett - Kristoffer Ventura

Alternate - Corey Conners

As most people do, on a resort course like this where it’s obvious there will be tons of birdies made all over the course, the main target for me this week are “birdie makers”. However, the birdie or better stat isn’t the one I’m chasing this week as many others are. The fairways are huge on this course and nearly impossible to miss, and on almost every hole other than the par 3’s these guys will have wedges into the green, making it also nearly impossible to miss the green. So I’m looking at the good putters that convert birdies at a high percentage. Kristoffer was 11th on tour in that statistic in 2020 and 2nd in this field behind Dom Bozzelli.

Kristoffer’s game is similar to Denny McCarthy’s who I also like a lot (but used in this contest already), and Denny has had some solid finishes in this tournament before, so it seems like that formula of golf works here. I’m hoping Joe and Spence lean towards a couple of the bad putters at the top of the board here and those guys have a couple bad putting days so I can somehow work my way back into this contest.

Yearly Earnings - $4,265,609

Yearly Cuts Made - 22/26

Head-To-Head Selection

Adam Long +100 over Charles Howell III

Reasons I Liked the Play:

I believe name recognition for Charles Howell III has provided him a little more credit than he deserves for the week. The 41-year-old ranks outside the top-100 with his irons over his previous 24 rounds and fails to crack the top-50 compared to the field in par-five birdie or better percentage.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

While I do like Adam Long and the general safety he provides, Howell isn't a natural head-to-head target because of his high percentage of made cuts. That doesn't mean we can't pinpoint an edge on a battle that will most likely go four days, but there is always more of a risk when things can go wrong on the weekend. I'd have made Long a -120 favorite and believe we are gaining around a 4.5 percent edge in terms of implied win probability.

0.70 Units to Win 0.70

Rob Oppenheim +110 over Sam Ryder

Reasons I Liked the Play:

It has been all-or-nothing for Sam Ryder since the beginning of 2020, as the 233rd-ranked player in the world has missed 10 of 18 cuts to go along with five top-30 finishes.  That level of volatility typically makes for a good golfer to target in the head-to-head spectrum, and Ryder's failed venture at the venue in 2018 adds to my optimism that we may see him miss out on another weekend.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

Frankly, Ryder is the better statistical fit for Corales Puntacana. Three missed cuts in a row versus Rob Oppenheim's three consecutive top-36 results can only go so far, and there is a chance that we see Ryder turn it on in a big way to get himself out of his slump. For that reason, I am not entirely opposed to playing the American in GPP contests on DraftKings, but I do believe we are off by about 25 points from a head-to-head perspective.

0.70 Units to Win 0.77

Sam Burns +100 over Corey Conners

Reasons I Liked the Play:

Statistically, Sam Burns grades out as my most likely winner this weekend at Corales Golf Club. The 24-year-old has been trending towards his first PGA Tour victory, and the overall level of erraticness from Corey Conners can't be understated. Conners is not only 50/50 in made cuts at the venue in his two tries but is also 50/50 over his last six events on tour. I think there is a chance that we sneak a missed cut out of Conners, but more likely, I think Burns' upside can bypass that of what we get out of the Canadian.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

We could have a dogfight on our hands for four days. It doesn't take away from the fact that I want to find a way to identify some exposure to Burns after not selecting him in the outright market, nor does it ignore the nearly 4.5 percent edge that we have on the play. Still, though, Conners is always just a hot putter away from having a chance to compete for the title, and his overall makeup isn't that of someone that we are clamoring to fade.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - U.S. Open

I don't know how fired up any of us were to turn in our Safeway Open selections last week, but it turned out to be a solid event all around, with Josh capturing a great T7 finish from Sam Burns, while Spencer and I had matching T29s from HV3 and Brendan Steele.

Last week was fun and all, but we're down to serious business this week for the U.S. Open at Winged Foot. My lead has grown to be pretty sizable in this contest, but either of the guys can get right back in this thing (wink, wink) by picking the winner this week. Let's go!

One and Done Selections - U.S. Open

Joe Nicely - Tony Finau

Alternate - Justin Thomas

Spencer is a long-time friend and Josh is a nice young kid that just got married, so I'm not gonna talk any trash to my buddies as we head into the year's second major championship with TEAM J-NICE leading in this OAD contest, I'm just gonna keep my head down and continue to grind. I might even just write a nice little poem at the end of this week's pick for my friends.

It goes without saying that 2020 has been an extremely weird year and the same goes for this OAD contest, with the COVID-19 layoff throwing the PGA Tour schedule for an absolute. I had my major championship plays for the year mapped out in broad strokes early on, but I've been thrown for a loop a bit this week, as my planned U.S. Open pick Brooks Koepka has been forced to W/D from the tournament with an injury. Unfortunately, my Option 1 and 1A pivots, DJ and Xander, are no longer available to me. However, Justin Thomas is - and would be the prudent play for me here - but like I did at the PGA Championship with Collin Morikawa, I'm going with my heart this week.

I don't know who the bigger Tony Finau truther is, me or Spencer, but I'm going with our guy this week. No, he hasn't won a big (or small) tournament lately, but he's been beautifully consistent in major championships, posting four top-five finishes in his last nine major starts.

I love Tony on long golf courses. I love Tony on hard golf courses. I love Tony on Utah courses and Puerto Rico courses and Tennessee courses and New York courses. I love when Tony top-10s and I love when Tony top-fives and I love that Tony has nine lives. I love Tony with his ankle broken and I love Tony with his ankle straight and I love being able to say...checkmate.

Spencer Aguiar - Jon Rahm

Alternate - Bryson DeChambeau

This contest has gotten completely away from me since the restart. I managed to take a pretty substantial lead before the COVID shutdown and transform it into a trainwreck at all turns over the previous two months. Joe's "victory" with Xander Schauffele at the Tour Championship essentially put a nail in this competition, and I couldn't think of a more fitting way to get eliminated than a guy finishing second but getting first-place money.

With all that being said, the attempted comeback has to start somewhere, and I haven't been shy about saving Jon Rahm for the U.S. Open this year. Do I trust him? Not as far as I could throw him. But win equity is what I need to chase, and there might not be anyone in this field that possesses the Spaniard's upside.

According to my model, Rahm ranks first in strokes gained total, third in overall bogey avoidance, fourth in sand save percentage, first in three-putt percentage and first in total driving. His ability to drive the ball straight and long makes him the man to beat in my eyes, and I will need just that at this stage to start the comeback of all comebacks.

Josh Bennett - Justin Thomas

Alternate - Matthew Fitzpatrick

I don’t have a ton of the big guns left, but I did save JT specifically for this tournament. His game is perfect for a US Open setup, and luckily he’s been in some good form other than a relatively cold putter. He will hit the ball long and mostly straight being a great ball-striker, and he’s one of the best iron players in the world. Even though his putter is not running hot, that matters a little less on a course that will not give up a ton of birdies anyway. This will likely be a weekend to grind out pars, and being as good as he is with his irons he will give himself plenty of easy chances to walk off the greens with pars. If he can dial in his putter, he could even run away with this thing. Hopefully that’s the case for me, there is a lot of room between me these two in this contest to make up quickly.

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. Well, that is all she wrote for this contest, as Xander Schauffele's real-life second-place finish resulted in a first-place total for Joe at the Tour Championship. Josh and I had our chances over the weekend with Rory McIlroy and Daniel Berger, but it was not to be this season for either of us.

We are still playing this up until the Masters, but I, for one, am tipping my cap to Joe on a fabulous year and will try to make this end result as respectable as possible at this point.

One and Done Selections - Safeway Open

Joe Nicely - Brendan Steele

Alternate - Harold Varner III

Let’s be honest, there aren’t a lot of great options available in this Safeway field. Most of the top names are either out of form (Sergio Garcia, Jordan Spieth) or past their prime (Phil Mickelson). That leaves us with established veterans and up-and-comers. While there are several of the youngsters that I consider fine plays, I ultimately decided to go with experience and a man that’s conquered this week’s Silverado layout two times already. Brendan Steele is never a player that we want to be counting on, but here we are...

Spencer Aguiar - Harold Varner III

Alternate - Shane Lowry

I've been going slightly all over the place between mixing my selections for this contest and the big one held over at a different website, but I will try to make all my choices match when possible down the stretch with Joe already having this in the bag.

The Safeway Open is a shaky field on the surface, but we do have multiple major winners to go along with a slew of young players that will be vying to get their 2021 season off to a quick start. For me, there are a few routes that make logical sense, but I will be swinging for the fence with someone who I expect to be a popular choice in Napa Valley.

On both my betting model and DFS sheet, Harold Varner III is grading out to be my most likely winner, which stems from his top-five ranking compared to the field in both strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained tee to green. The American has provided three top-17s at this venue over his last four tries and is the safest person I have on the board. If you are in chase mode and need to make up ground, I do believe Shane Lowry makes for an interesting pivot option.

Josh Bennett - Sam Burns

Alternate - Brendan Steele

I’m not sure there’s a chance to catch Joe now, but I have to make a pick here that isn’t going to be as popular and hope he picks the obvious guy(s) and they fall off. It’s pretty obvious this is my fault that Joe has this big of a lead after all the smack talk from me earlier in the season, so, sorry for that Spence.

We’ve seen in the past that there are multiple ways you can get around this course and do well. Guys like Brandt and Chez who are short and straight have great histories, as do guys like Phil and Champ who are long but wild. In situations like that, I always tend to lean towards the bomber-type of players knowing that length is always an advantage. I’m going with Burns out of the handful of guys in that category for a couple reasons. He will be one of the top five longest in the field, but the others that will keep up with his distance are nowhere near his skill in the rest of the game.

Other than a poor performance at the Northern Trust, he hadn’t had a finish worse than 32nd in five straight events that all had much stronger fields than this one. He’s been on the edge of breaking through a handful of times in his career so far and he’ll have a great chance to do that in a weak field on a course he should thrive on after a couple of weeks of rest.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Tour Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

It was a quiet week for the crew at the BMW Championship, as I got too cute and saved Jon Rahm for the U.S. Open - despite stating he was going to win at Olympia Fields. Josh and Joe provided matching T20 paydays with Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler, but things still stand pretty much where they were entering the FedExCup playoffs.

It is going to take a strong close to the season for Josh or myself to catch Joe, who is looking powerful with a massive lead and steady player pool to boot. The move towards catching him needs to start now, and the Tour Championship is a good location to try and get started. Let's see who the guys are rolling with at East Lake.

One and Done Selections - Tour Championship

Joe Nicely - Xander Schauffele

Alternate - Tony Finau

We debated on how to handle this week’s Tour Championship, before eventually deciding to post our picks without using the staggered start scoring format. Some OAD contests aren’t running at all this week, while some will go with and without the stroke advantage. For those of you in contests that will be using the staggered start, I’d recommend going to JT if he’s still available to you.

As for me and our “everyone starts at Even par” format, I’ll be going with Xander Schauffele. The X-Man has been a true mutant in his previous starts at East Lake, and while his recent results haven’t been spectacular, they have been solid enough to feel like there might be something special in store for him this week.

Spencer Aguiar - Rory McIlroy

Alternate - Jon Rahm

We didn't originally plan on using this event for the OAD, which is one reason my player pool is a little disjointed entering East Lake. I am aware that everyone is playing with different settings than others, and it makes it hard to recommend what route is the savviest. If your group is taking the week off, then you don't have much to think about, but there are settings that are deviating somewhere between starting score coming into play and no advantage. For the sake of this contest, we have decided that no advantage would be the plan. It just wasn't fair to make a change to anything else last minute, but it does take Jon Rahm off my board for personal reasons.

I want to emphasize that I do believe Rahm has a strong chance to take down the Tour Championship, but I am all in on this idea of dying on my sword and saving him for the U.S. Open if it is the last thing I do. I have already missed him twice at the Memorial and BMW Championship because of this strategy, and I'm not deviating now and missing out on my chance to get a missed cut with the Spaniard at Winged Foot.  If you are playing in a contest where the starting strokes matter, I'd recommend going Justin Thomas or Jon Rahm. Those two options provide you your best win equity outside of Dustin Johnson, and the advantage really can't be understated of beginning with a few shots in hand over the majority of the field.

As far as this competition is concerned, the season has been a scattered mess because of the restart, and it has really thrown a lot of my strategy for a loop. Xander Schauffele is a superb option for those that have saved him, and I do think Daniel Berger becomes an interesting choice in this setup as well. Unfortunately, those two are long gone as golfers I can take, and my vision of where to deploy Bryson DeChambeau involves a green jacket and a plethora of azaleas.

By process of elimination, new father Rory McIlroy is going to have to takes the controls in his quest to repeat at the Tour Championship. The Irishman has provided two victories at this property in his last three attempts, and it might not be a terrible situation that he gets to shoot freely with no real expectation level being seven shots back. If the Masters isn't my place for him and the WGC in China just got canceled, it is going to have to be in Atlanta that we roll out the explosive 31-year-old.

Josh Bennett - Daniel Berger

Alternate - Justin Thomas

The pick is real easy this week. I need the W to have a chance, and I have two people left on my board that have a shot (JT and Berger). JT obviously has the BEST shot, but Joe and I both have him left and I don’t see any reason why Joe would not pick him this week to protect his lead. So, I have to go with option number two and hope JT falls off for one week. Both Joe and Spencer have already used up Berger, so I’ll be unique for this week for sure. Unfortunately, so will Joe if he uses JT because Spencer rolled him earlier in the season. To be honest, I don’t use Berger in any format, ever, so I can’t even give great reasons for playing him other than he makes me unique and gives me my best chance to win. Going to use my “one-time” this week, I need it!

Head-To-Head Selection (All Plays Feature Built-In Scoring For The Tour Championship)

Lanto Griffin -115 over Kevin Na

Reasons I Liked the Play:

Getting a one-shot edge with Lanto Griffin over Kevin Na might not seem like a ton on the surface, but it does further amplify the advantage when I had Griffin at about -110 before the bonus. Na brings very minimal form into the week and has struggled in recent years at East Lake, failing to crack the top-25 in his previous two showings.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

The picture becomes a little better for Na when we remove current form from the equation. The American ranks inside the top-17 compared to the field in strokes gained approach and strokes gained around the green and is also second in total putting. The range of outcomes will be higher for Na, but I am willing to take him on in a market that isn't properly giving its respects to Griffin.

0.80 Units to Win 0.70

Ryan Palmer +141 over Billy Horschel

Reasons I Liked the Play:

I understand the intrigue around Billy Horschel at East Lake. A second-place finish at the property in 2018 to go along with four top-25s in his past seven tournaments is no doubt impressive, but the public support has become too one-sided in the head-to-head market. I have Palmer as a very slight favorite before getting the one-stroke advantage and will take my built-in edge that is being offered.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

I don't have a premium play this weekend. Palmer over Horschel would have been the favorite to fit into that slot.

0.85 Units to Win 1.20

Justin Thomas +170 over Dustin Johnson

Reasons I Liked the Play:

I have Justin Thomas as my winner for the Tour Championship, so you better believe I am going to take him against a golfer that I am going to be fading for the week. The is no question that DJ is capable of walking out of East Lake with the grand prize, but it is important to remember that his range of outcomes is wider than the average tour player. We are only a few weeks removed from Johnson posting back-to-back 80s, and I am hoping the switch to Bermuda slows him down slightly since he is typically a better putter on Bent/Poa.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

We are still opposing the number one player in the world in this matchup and giving him a three-shot lead to begin the show. I can think the price is incorrect, but it is always scary to oppose Johnson when he is possessing this much form.

0.65 Units to Win 1.11

Webb Simpson +270 over Dustin Johnson

Reasons I Liked the Play:

If fading Dustin Johnson once wasn't good enough, let's go back to the well a second time. Don't get me wrong, the 36-year-old is the deserving favorite to beat Simpson, but where do we draw the line with the amount of value they are offering on the play? I could argue this is nearly 70 points too high, and Johnson's level of volatility could turn this into nearly a 50/50 proposition by the end of round one.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

Same reasons as Thomas over Johnson.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - BMW Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

It was a sleepy week for the boys and I at the Northern Trust, as we failed to get much going with our selections in Boston. Spencer's homeboy Jason Day ejected on Friday and failed to make the weekend, while Josh and I didn't fare much better with our selections of Adam Scott and Patrick Reed. So there wasn't a lot of movement in our OAD standings as we head to Olympia Fields for the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

There are only 70 players in the field for the BMW Championship, but there is no shortage of elite options available, so let's see who the boys will be rolling with at the first FedExCup playoff start.

One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a second season.

One and Done Selections - BMW Championship

Joe Nicely - Scottie Scheffler

Alternate - Matthew Wolff

I carved out a small lead in this contest by being aggressive in a couple of key spots, with Daniel Berger at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude and Collin Morikawa at the PGA Championship being two that especially stand out. There are several "safe" options available to me this week at the BMW Championship, but I'm going to continue going with my gut and attempt to attack this OAD contest without fear.

With that attitude in mind, I landed on Scottie Scheffler this week at Olympia Fields. The 24-year-old doesn't have the experience in these "big" events that I would normally target, but a round of 59 en route to a T4 finish in last week's Northern Trust illustrates that he certainly has the talent needed to compete and a T4 on the strength of a gritty final round a couple of weeks ago at the PGA Championship shows that he has the mental toughness needed to handle pressure situations.

There's some risk with Scheffler, as he can be volatile, but with the no-cut nature of this week's event I want a player that has the ability to post low scores on this long Olympia Fields layout and he ranks fourth in this elite field in Birdies Gained over his last 12 rounds, while gaining strokes T2G in four straight starts.

My chances for victory are looking slim after Jason Day decided to go on an early vacation during last week's Northern Trust, and I am running out of time (and players) in my quest to mount a comeback. From a game theory perspective, I assume I have three more premier shots at a massive payday in Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. That doesn't mean I can't find additional purses elsewhere, but the main benefit for me is that I know I will get a free crack at the trio since Joe and Josh have used them earlier in the season. All of that is fine and dandy, but I am going to have to be extremely selective if I want to maximize my current paltry implied win percentage in this contest, which can be labeled somewhere between "longshot" and "forget about it."

I think there are a few routes I could take this weekend that would make logical sense. Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland both have upside to yield a solid payday at the BMW Championship, or I could decide to go for the gusto right now and deploy Jon Rahm at a venue that should suit his game. All three of those options were firmly in play as directions I considered taking, but I have decided to go rogue and stalk my pray with the 'Big Cat' himself.

The thing about selecting Woods here is that we don't have many more opportunities to take the 82-time PGA Tour winner this season. Outside of the Masters, there is no guarantee of when we will see him in action again, and it could be difficult to get the 44-year-old in a situation where he isn't entering the event off of a multi-week absence. Woods' game has been a hot putter away from finding success the past two starts, and it shouldn't hurt matters that he needs a minimum of a top-six showing to have any chance at East Lake. I'd imagine Tiger wants to keep his season alive and build some momentum leading up to the final two majors of the year, and I believe we get whatever his best effort is in Illinois. This selection isn't for the faint of heart, but I need to take a leap of faith if I want to get myself back into the mix.

Josh Bennett - Collin Morikawa

Alternate - Daniel Berger

I have a lot of ground to make up in a short period of time, but I have some top dogs left still that hopefully can cut into this big deficit. This week ball-striking will be at a premium, especially off the tee, and there really hasn’t been a much better ball-striker this year than Morikawa. There is no need to be long on this golf course, the ball just has to be put in the correct places for a good look at the green. Morikawa is good enough off the tee to do that, and when you get the irons in his hand it’s lights out. The greens should have a little more California feel to them this week which he should be a little more comfortable on. Although I don’t usually dive too deeply into putting on different grass types, we know that Collin struggles putting so any tiny advantage on the greens for him just brings his potential that much higher. He also racks up birdies in bunches, so one bad day in the first two rounds won’t hurt him in a no-cut and he can easily get back into things with three really good rounds. Looking for him to get at least into the top 5 so I can fire off another big gun for the Tour Championship and get myself back in this thing.

Head-To-Head Selection

Ryan Palmer -115 over Chez Reavie

Reasons I Liked the Play:

My math has this grading out at nearly -135 in favor of Ryan Palmer, giving us a four percent edge in terms of implied probability. Palmer hasn't been immune to his fair share of erratic results, but it is Reavie that looks on the shaky side of things after missing his two previous cuts and failing to come inside the top-60 at TPC Boston since 2016.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

Palmer hasn't always been someone I've been able to pinpoint with my recommendations at RotoBaller (3-2-1) record over six plays, and I do worry that Chez Reavie is a better statistical fit than my math may indicate.

Byeong Hun An -110 over Russell Henley

Reasons I Liked the Play:

While the general consensus around Byeong Hun An is that his volatility makes him a tough player to get behind in the head-to-head market, I see this as an opportunity to grab the 28-year-old in a territory below his skillset. Hun An has quietly put together back-to-back top-22 results at the WGC and PGA Championship and looks like a natural fit to keep that momentum rolling in Boston.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

I hate to say it, but I really liked what I saw from Russell Henley at the Wyndham Championship. My model doesn't seem to be in agreement with my eye-test, but Henley looked magnificent en route to gaining a total of 7.1 strokes tee to green. TPC Boston is a more difficult venue that will test some of his deficiencies, but there is no denying that the American looks to have turned his game around recently. I have this properly priced at -135 - once again giving us a smidge below a five percent edge.

0.77 Units to Win 0.70

Jason Day -105 over Webb Simpson

Reasons I Liked the Play:

I think people are underestimating just how much skill off the tee you are going to need to compete during the first leg of the FedExCup playoffs. TPC Boston is a venue that has tree-lined fairways that can potentially come into play, but distance is going to far outweigh accuracy because of the overall open nature of the layout. Webb Simpson has shown himself to be more volatile so far in 2020, which has allowed him to find the winner's circle twice, but it hasn't been all sunshine and roses with two missed cuts over his previous seven events.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

It didn't miss by much. Simpson has failed to finish inside the top-40 in his past four showings at the venue, and I am still not fully writing off the supposed rib injury that he took into the Wyndham Championship. TPC Boston will test him substantially more off the tee, and I am interested to see if any negative effects take place along the way. There is some humor in talking about a potential injury of an opponent of Jason Day, but this isn't my favorite spot for the American.

Top-20 Recommendations (All Ties Pay Fully)

Jon Rahm (+100) - 0.75 to Win 0.75

There are a few things that have enhanced Jon Rahm in my model and made him a profitable wager to back at +100. For starters, the reduced nature of the field does subtract around 30 additional golfers that would take up some portion of a percentage in making the top-20, and it doesn't hurt matters that Rahm is grading out for me to be the most steady option of anyone in the field. We have seen him perform admirably at difficult tests in the past, and his total driving skillset should be rewarded handsomely at the first FedExCup stop.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Northern Trust

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Don't call it a comeback! The clock hasn't struck midnight on me quite yet, as Billy Horschel was able to net nearly $700,000 at the Wyndham Championship. Both Josh and I will need a Herculian effort if we want to catch Joe down the stretch, who has not only built a substantial lead but also has the pieces to close the show. However, the start had to happen somewhere, and it didn't hurt matters that Rose missed the cut for our current leader.

There are a lot of options to be had this week at the Northern Trust, so let's see who the boys will be rolling with at the first FedExCup playoff start.

One and Done Selections - Northern Trust

Joe Nicely - Patrick Reed

Alternate - Adam Scott

Well...I had a comfortable lead in this contest for all of one week. The Wyndham turned out to be disastrous for Team J-Nice, as my pick Justin Rose sleepwalked to a missed cut, while Spencer and Josh both had players that did very well.

It’s time to refocus as we head into the first event of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs and there is no shortage of options this week in The Northern Trust at TPC Boston. I find myself being drawn to a player that I rarely roster in DFS and am always reluctant to utilize in any PGA format. Patrick Reed is a guy that I can never fully put a finger on statistically, which makes it tough for me to ever feel totally confident in him. That’s where I am again this week, but I’m gonna pull the trigger on P-Reed nevertheless, as I love both his current form and course history at TPC Boston.

Yes, there are better players still available to me, and yes, this is a huge prize pool...but the 2018 Masters champion is a gut call that I’m going to roll with this week and one that I hope will help me stretch my lead in our RotoBaller OAD contest.

Roll out the red carpet, you better believe I am taking in every moment as if I am a young Prince Naseem Hamed entering the ring for a championship fight. The cards might be stacked against me having an actual chance to overtake Joe before this season comes to an end, but you better believe I will be swinging for the fence and hoping to land a haymaker with the man that can get the job done with one shot.

Jason Day is the former top-ranked player in the world for a reason, and the eight titles that he captured between 2015-2016 don't suddenly become obsolete. TPC Boston is a venue where Day has provided eight top-25s since 2010, and the win that has alluded him feels as if it is around the corner.

Call it needing a little help or whatever you would like, but I can't think of a better golfer to select when you are in need of some magicThe comeback needs to start right now, and I am ready to blast off to infinity and beyond!

Josh Bennett - Adam Scott

Alternate - Abraham Ancer

Another week, another course that favors the elite iron players. Adam Scott has been one of the best ball-strikers on Tour in his career, and since I've used up many of the other great iron players already, it's his time for me. The only concern with Adam is his putting. The good news is that the greens are pretty small, so most of his putts will be from closer distances than usual and the putting issues will hopefully be minimized. We've seen this year already if he has a couple good rounds of putting he has the game to win in any field and he's got a great chance to do that again this week.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - Wyndham Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

Well, well, well...my guy Collin Morikawa came through HUGE last week at the PGA Championship! With the win, the young star grabbed his first major championship and deposited almost $2 million into my OAD account, enough to give me a lead in this contest over Spencer and Josh. The guys both had very solid picks at the PGA, with both Brooks (Josh) and Daniel Berger (Spencer) right in the thick of things heading into the final round, before ultimately dropping down the leaderboard slightly.

We head from the high-flying PGA Championship to the North Carolina-based Wyndham Championship. Player selection will be tougher this week, as this field pales in comparison to some that we've seen over the last few weeks. It will be interesting to see who the guys are rolling with. Let's dive in!

One And Done Staff Picks Overview

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud to announce the weekly PGA “One and Done” column will be back for a second season.

One and Done Selections - Wyndham Championship

Joe Nicely - Justin Rose

Alternate - Si Woo Kim

Ok...now we're talking! I made a "feel it in my heart" pick with Collin Morikawa last week and the young star was able to win his first major at the PGA Championship. His victory was enough to give me a lead in this OAD contest for perhaps the first time all season. So while I've grown accustomed to taking some calculated risks with my picks over the last several months, I'm now in the (strange) position of leading this thing.

I don't think my newfound lead has a huge impact on this week's selection, as the Wyndham field doesn't exactly present us with tons of juicy options. Kudos to those that still have Webb Simpson available to them in OAD contests, as Webb at Sedgefield is the very definition of a "no brainer". Unfortunately, I don't have Simpson left this week, so I'm forced to go with another veteran in Justin Rose.

Rose has been plagued by inconsistency not only over the past 18 months, but especially since the restart. He came out of the layoff firing at the Charles Schwab and the RBC Heritage, only to look like a totally different player in subsequent starts. The Englishman once again looked solid at last week's PGA Championship en route to a top-10 finish. I'll try to ride that momentum this week at Sedgefield, a layout that demands fairways, greens, and birdies. It should be a great fit for Rose, a player who is almost to volatile for me to use in a "big payday" event.

Spencer Aguiar - Billy Horschel

Alternate - Harris English

Well, things are going to get a little slippery here for a bit. I need to figure out a plan to close this gap quickly after Joe was able to connect on Collin Morikawa at the PGA Championship, but the cards may not be in my favor with a limited amount of tournaments left on the schedule.

Patrick Reed would be my preferred selection if I had a full arsenal of golfers at my disposal, but I am going to have to deviate away from that plan and try to land on someone that I think might have higher win equity than expected. Harris English doesn't quite fit the bill with no victories on the PGA Tour in seven years, so I will instead pivot onto Billy Horschel, who might be itching for a win of his own after failing to find the winner's circle since 2018.

Horschel is a premier Bermuda putter that brings with him four top-45 finishes in a row, and it doesn't hurt that the Florida native has finished inside the top-11 of this event three of the past four years. I'm going to need a little luck at this point, but I could be doing a lot worse than Horschel as the man to try and get this train rolling.

Yearly Earnings - $3,399,601

Yearly Cuts Made - 15/20

Josh Bennett - Paul Casey

Alternate - Joaquin Niemann

For the 10th week this season, my pick of the week is.. Webb Simpson! If only Joe and Spencer allowed that. Since I can’t go there, I’m going to go with another elite iron player in the field: Paul Casey. We’ve seen in prior years that it’s the really good iron players that typically do well in this event, and there isn’t a better one (statistically this year by SG: Approach) in this field than Paul Casey. He had struggled since the restart, but his irons have not been the problem and he looks to have found form in the rest of his game after a 2nd place finish last week at the PGA Championship. He’s always a volatile player especially because of his putting, but it is a good time to roll him at a place where his elite iron play alone should keep him in contention. He’s shown he can do that here before as well with a 3rd place finish in 2015 and two other top 20 finishes since 2014. IF he can roll in a few putts, he has the potential to even run away with this thing.

Head-To-Head Selection

Russell Henley -110 over J.T. Poston

Reasons I Liked the Play:

We have seen a ton of reverse line movement on this play so far in the week, with Henley dropping from a -130 favorite down to a virtual pick'em at -110. I thought the opening line of -130 was spot-on for where the number should have been, and it is hard to ignore the four percent advantage of implied win probability we are getting over my math. Poston's victory here last season seems to be attracting some sharp money into the market, but his poor iron play recently has my model raising a red flag.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

Frankly, it just comes down to a lack of upside potential for Henley. Head-to-head bets are not about trying to pinpoint the winner of the tournament, but his deficiency of birdie-making prowess might be his eventual downfall at an event that is going to require a score inside the 20s to win. Poston has proven he can get to that total at Sedgefield Country Club in the past, and his improvements on Bermuda over all other surfaces is a notable one.

0.77 Units to Win 0.70

Cameron Davis +110 over Jhonattan Vegas

Reasons I Liked the Play:

We get two guys who are heading in opposite directions over the last month. Cameron Davis has compiled back-to-back top-35 finishes, including a 22nd place result at this week's venue last season. Vegas, on the other hand, hasn't made a cut since the Workday Charity Open and continues to struggle with his irons and short game.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

I have trepidation behind this play for a few reasons. It would be naive to deal in absolutes when it comes to both Davis and Vegas' recent form. I don't believe the Aussie is this steady or consistent, and I know for a fact that Vegas is not this bad - especially when it comes to his ball-striking nature. This play does have my biggest disparity difference of the week at nearly 10% off of what it should be when it comes to implied probability, but I can't say I am overly enthusiastic for the reasons mentioned above. It feels like one of those spots where my model is being a little too sensitive to limited recent results, but it is still worth a play at a plus-number.

0.64 Units to Win 0.70

Sam Burns +120 over Chris Kirk

Reasons I Liked the Play:

It has become a weekly practice for us of fading Chris Kirk in this article. I continue to stand by this narrative that the American is overvalued because of the traction he has gained by the media over his recent troubles off the golf course, but it is not as if it has done us a ton of good by going 2-3 over our past 5 attempts of opposing him. I'm a firm believer that his top-25 in Detroit can be chalked up to some lucky around the green shots, and it is not as if he has provided anything else inside the top-25 since March of 2019.

Reasons It Didn't Make the Premium Card:

Of all the weeks we have faded Chris Kirk, Sedgefield Country Club does make the most sense for him to find success with his game. It should allow the American to use his mid-iron skills to receive a boost in his often faulty approach numbers, and it also will provide him with a chance to find scoring opportunities at an easier venue. Kirk remains a better fade when the going gets tough, and it doesn't help that some of Sam Burns' off the tee abilities will get negated this week.

0.58 Units to Win 0.70

Adding

Brooks Koepka +160 over Webb Simpson

Adding Brooks Koepka +160 over Webb Simpson. I have these two at a virtual coin flip for the week. Webb isn't a person I'm actively looking to fade, but this number has gotten carried away.

0.65 Units to Win 1.04

Top-20 Recommendations (All Ties Pay Fully)

Patrick Reed (+100) - 0.75 to Win 0.75

Most 16/1 shots aren't going to equate to being even-money to finish inside the top-20 in fields of 156 players, but that is assuming 16/1 is the proper price on the surface. I have Reed as my most likely person to walk out of North Carolina victorious, and I believe his overall level of consistency and upside plays across the board in all contests and bets.

RotoBaller PGA: One And Done Staff Picks - PGA Championship

Here at RotoBaller, we are always searching for ways to give our readers the best fantasy sports content possible. With that goal in mind, we are very proud of our weekly PGA “One and Done” column. In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar and Josh Bennett will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!

It was a massive past week for Joe, as he took the lead in the contest after his stellar second-place showing from Daniel Berger at TPC Southwind. His nearly $700,000 payday was enough to jump both Josh and I in the standings, and it didn't help matters that Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa provided sub-par efforts over the four days to not account for Joe's massive showing.

Margins are razor-thin entering the PGA Championship, and it is still anyone's game coming into this portion of the season. Let's see who the guys are rolling with, and let's see if someone can finally generate a little separation from the group.

One and Done Selections - PGA Championship

Joe Nicely - Collin Morikawa

Alternate - Jason Day

I’ve spent so much time the last couple of weeks telling everybody how much I love Brooks Koepka that I forgot to even think about who my OAD pick would be for the year’s first major. I guess anybody that reads, listens, or watches my PGA DFS content assumes it will be “The Big Game Hunter” - and maybe it should be - but I’m gonna go in a different direction for the PGA Championship.

Brooks kinda ruined my plans, as I was hoping he would continue his mediocre/uninspiring play right up until this week, at which time I would load up when nobody still believed in him, but he had to go and spoil everything with a vintage performance last week in Memphis...an outing that has my eight-year-old daughter ready to play him this week and forces me to look for alternative options in OAD formats (I’ll still have tons of Brooks exposure in DFS).

With several big guns still available in my arsenal, I suppose there are several reasons that I shouldn’t go with Collin Morikawa this week, but he’s a believe-it-in-my-heart pick that I’m rolling with. He’s probably too young (23-year-old) and too inexperienced in majors (a T35 in last year's U.S. Open his is his lone major start). But you know what? So was Jordan Spieth and so was Tiger Woods. Now, I'm not saying that Morikawa will have the same success in majors as those two, but I do believe he's a similarly-prodigious type of talent. He's the best young iron player I've seen since Tiger and ranks second in this ultra-elite field in SG: Approach over 50 measured rounds (roughly the length of his pro career), in addition to grading out third in SG: T2G and first in SG: Ball Striking over the same time period. Put simply, we don't see players come on to the PGA Tour and strike the ball this well for a sustained period of time unless they are extremely special.

In addition to his undeniable physical tools, Morikawa has demonstrated the mental toughness we look for in major champions. The youngster rebounded from a devastating loss at the Charles Schwab to score a playoff win against Justin Thomas - and what seemed like insurmountable odds - at Muirfield Village less than a month later. It all adds up to my belief that Morikawa is a special player...one that I’m willing to put my faith in this week.

Spencer Aguiar - Daniel Berger

Alternate - Tiger Woods

I admittingly have made a bit of a disaster with my player pool entering the PGA Championship. The Covid-19 stoppage threw a monkey wrench into what I had planned for the year, and it has resulted in a meltdown of me missing five or my last 10 cuts.

The issue is that there isn't a quick fix solution. One of Rory McIlroy or Bryson DeChambeau was always meant to be the play when we got to San Francisco, but between DeChambeau's weather draw and McIlroy's current form, I struggle to justify the duo as a selection in this contest. It wouldn't shock me if either left Sunday as the victor, but using someone is final since it results in the termination of that player for the rest of the season. I'd prefer to wait and save each for a spot that looks cleaner for a payday, but it doesn't help that Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay have all been taken off my board entering the week.

Look, I don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that at least one of Joe or Josh will be hitting me with Brooks Koepka this week. I assume both are saving Thomas for somewhere else (a place that gives away a green jacket), and each has already used Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm. The options quickly start to become condensed of alternative routes that I think they may go. With all of that in mind, I have decided to swing for the fence by selecting Daniel Beger. I know the American will be popular in the betting/DFS scenes, but I do question how many OAD players will roll out the 27-year-old when push comes to shove. We can sit here and argue about Berger's lack of major success or even his shortage of achievement in California, but it is essential to remember that everyone has to start somewhere. I've been a believer that Berger will win a PGA Championship by 2025 for a few years now, and it appears as if he is finally starting to show that he is one of the elite players in the game.

Josh Bennett - Brooks Koepka

Alternate - Justin Thomas

The scenario that Brooks fans have been looking for has rounded right into shape. He went a few weeks struggling with different parts of his game and is now rolling into his top form heading into a major. It is no secret that Brooks plays his best in majors, and it’s even better that he’s coming in with great form. He may have a lingering injury, but it didn’t seem to bother him much last week and adrenaline should carry him through the weekend. It may not be as severe as Finau and his ankle at the Masters, but that’s as good of an example as any of golfers being able to play well through serious injuries for a few days. Brooks’ strengths are what you need to do well on this course; he’s long off the tee and relatively straight. He’s also strong (obviously) which will be very helpful if he does end up in rough so he can get the club through it easier. Brooks is a no-brainer in a major on a course that is a perfect fit for his game.
