ANALYSIS: Brandon Coleman had a strong debut for the Saints, posting a solid 4-41-1 line in Week 1. The reports about Coleman putting serious pressure on Marques Colston, to the point of overtaking him as the true WR2 for New Orleans, seems to now be validated. While both Coleman and Colston had seven targets, Coleman was targeted on throws over 15 yards on four out of his seven targets, and also converted a red zone look into a touchdown. Now look at the best evidence for why you should be picking up Coleman.
Here are the snap counts for Brandin Cooks, Coleman, and Colston respectively: 73, 58, 46. Cooks is the unquestioned #1 receiver for Drew Brees and company, but it really looks like Coleman is going to be the next guy you want. Not only that, but he is working deeper routes and getting a look from Brees in the end zone means there's trust there. It's easy to read too much into Week 1 statistics, but you have to be ahead of the crowd if you want to reap the rewards and Cooks has plenty of trends behind the performance that warrant a roster spot on your team. Oh, and don't forget that the Saints are going to be at home in the Superdome (where they work opponents) against the Buccaneers defense. Yes, the same defense that made Marcus Mariota look like he had cheat codes. You want Coleman, go get Coleman.
