1 year agoDetroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera hit two home runs against the New York Yankees on Thursday. Both of Cabrera's homers were off Gerrit Cole. The Tigers offense was unstoppable during this game, as they combined for nine home runs. Outfielder Travis Demeritte also homered twice. Cabrera is a solid late-round DH in deep mixed leagues. Last season, he still was a reliable producer in batting average (.282) and on-base percentage (.346). If Cabrera can have a bounce-back year in the power department, his stock will quickly rise.--Jakob Ashlin

1 year agoDetroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera said he put on weight last year, but he's now back to his playing weight from the 2015 season. Cabrera changed his diet in the offseason to include more vegetables and fewer carbohydrates. The 36-year-old (37 in April) Dominican hit .338/.440/.534 with 18 home runs and 76 RBI in 119 games in 2015 for the Tigers. The 11-time All-Star and two-time MVP is fading, though, as he hit .282/.346/.398 with only 12 home runs and 59 RBI in 136 games for Detroit last year. He still has a great approach at the plate, but the power drop is significant and won't make him very attractive in shallow mixed leagues at first base.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
