4 months agoNew Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has been rehabbing his right knee at the team's facility during the league shutdown. He is allowed to have access to the facility because his injury occurred before the hiatus. Williamson continues to strengthen his surgically-repaired right knee, while adding flexibility as well. It sounds like Williamson will be ready to play whenever the league does return to action. The Pelicans might have some limits on Williamson, but we'll wait and see what happens.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: NOLA.com

4 months agoNew Orleans Pelicans forward Kenrich Williams (back) has been receiving treatment at the team's facility during the league shutdown. He has been unable to play since early January, but believes he'll be ready to practice when the NBA returns. The Pelicans believe that this time off is really going to help Williams get back to full health. This is great news for Williams, but he'll likely be lost in the shuffle on the Pelicans roster. He won't have great fantasy value with most of the roster healthy and ready to play.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: NOLA.com

4 months agoAtlanta Hawks guard Trae Young mentioned that he is not quite prepared to play right now if the season were to resume. "If we do end up coming back, there's gonna be some time where we get kind of like a mini-training camp started where we can get back in shape, play, and just kind of get back into the game flow," he said. The league is well aware that they would need to ramp up players after months-long hiatus. Not every single player has the equipment or access to a basketball court in order to stay in shape. Young has been doing his best to stay in shape, but knows he'll need some practice time before getting back on the court.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Sports Illustrated

4 months agoBoston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum mentioned that he would prefer to play the regular season if the 2019-2020 season resumes at some point. “No, no, we had 15 to 18 games or something like that left in the season and we were starting to get healthy,” Tatum said. There was some talk that the NBA would jump start into the playoffs, but it appears Tatum isn't a fan of that idea. Tatum has been playing much better since the All-Star break. Fantasy owners should keep an eye on him if this incredible efficiency continues once the hiatus ends.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic

4 months agoGolden State Warriors center Kevon Looney underwent successful core muscle surgery on Tuesday. It was an injury plagued campaign for Looney in 2019-2020, but hopefully he's finally corrected his issues. The Warriors are out of playoff contention, so it makes sense for Looney to undergo surgery at this point. Head coach Steve Kerr had high hopes for Looney being an impact player this season, but injuries kept him sidelined throughout most of the year. He'll likely have to battle Marquese Chriss and anyone else they add for playing time in 2020-2021.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Warriors PR

4 months agoUtah Jazz forward Georges Niang is expected to see more minutes going forward, assuming the NBA season does return this year. Bojan Bogdanovic underwent season-ending wrist surgery for an issue that has plagued him since November. Royce O'Neale is expected to be the small-ball power forward while Bogdanovic is out. That means more minutes should be available for Niang as the backup four. However, Niang does not have great numbers this season, so he won't be worth adding in most leagues, assuming play does resume.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic

4 months agoUtah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic underwent successful season-ending wrist surgery on Tuesday in New York. He reportedly suffered the injury in November and has been playing through the pain. The injury was on his shooting wrist, but hopefully Bogdanovic will be ready to play next season. Losing Bogdanovic is going to hurt the Jazz roster, assuming the NBA does return this season. Royce O'Neale and Georges Niang will be asked to play more minutes and have bigger roles on the team. Neither player has great fantasy value, but O'Neale could offer some help in deep leagues.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Eric Walden

4 months agoGolden State Warriors center Marquese Chriss had a surprising breakout campaign for the organization during the 2019-2020 season. The team reportedly sees Chriss as a building block for the future of their organization. There have been rumors that the Warriors were interested in Memphis center James Wiseman with a top five pick. However, it appears that the organization trusts that Chriss can continue to produce for them. He averaged 13.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks over the last 20 games before the NBA went on hiatus. Chriss could have reliable fantasy value next season, assuming he does start at center for the Warriors in 2020-2021.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: NBC Sports

5 months agoMiami Heat center Meyers Leonard is a free agent after the 2020-2021 season, but would like to stay with the organization. “I’m in a good place here in Miami,” Leonard said. “I really feel as though I help Jimmy [Butler] and Bam [Adebayo] in a lot of ways." He just wants to be a team player and help the organization win with whatever he needs to do. Leonard has started 49 games for the Heat this season, but his stats aren't exactly impressive at the moment. However, Leonard is improving his percentage from beyond the arc, which has been helpful for Miami. Whether or not Leonard returns to Miami remains to be seen, but it sounds like he'd love to sign an extension with the organization.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Miami Herald

5 months agoUtah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic (wrist) announced that he is undergoing season-ending wrist surgery, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. This is a huge blow to the Jazz roster, assuming the NBA season does resume at some point. Bogdanovic was averaging 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 3.0 triples through 63 games this season. He was producing an impressive shooting line of 44/41/90, which is going to be tough to replace. The Jazz are going to need to get creative with how they replace his minutes. Royce O'Neale is expected to see the biggest boost in playing time from the loss of Bogdanovic.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Adrian Wojnarowski

5 months agoBrooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie started a GoFundMe and said he'll sign a one-year deal of the fans' choice if they reach his goal of $24 million. He is currently under contract with the Nets until after the 2021-2022 season. Dinwiddie said he will donate the money to charity if it doesn't reach his goal. He is currently well below his mark of $24 million, but there is still plenty of time left to donate. Dinwiddie has found an interesting way to have fun during the quarantine.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Spencer Dinwiddie

5 months agoPhiladelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons (back) was sidelined before the NBA went on hiatus due to a lower back nerve impingement. Head coach Brett Brown says Simmons has done an outstanding job rehabbing while the league has been shutdown. Simmons has had access to the team's facility due to the fact that his issue was pre-existing. GM Elton Brand is optimistic Simmons will be cleared to play whenever the NBA does resume play. The Sixers have been looking for new ways to get Simmons involved, so his fantasy value could be on the rise soon.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic

5 months agoWashington Wizards forward Troy Brown recently mentioned that he's working on his shot from beyond the arc and his lateral quickness. He wants to improve his defense, so he can find new ways to impact the game without shooting the ball. Brown was lost in the shuffle at times in Washington and only averaged 24.9 minutes per game before the league went on hiatus. He should be able to boost his fantasy value, assuming Brown is able to improve his game in other areas. Brown only averaged 9.7 points per game this season, but could be on the radar for deep leagues if he can make the correct changes to his game.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic
Share:
5 months agoGolden State Warriors guard/forward Andrew Wiggins is expected to remain the starting small forward next season, according to Anthony Slater. D'Angelo Russell didn't last too long in Golden State, but Wiggins should stay a little longer. However, the organization would likely trade Wiggins in any blockbuster trades because his contract could be used for matching purposes. Wiggins is owed an average of $29 million over the next three seasons. The Warriors would likely have to trade Wiggins in order to acquire another star player. However, until that happens, it sounds like Wiggins is going to be a starter in Golden State. He was averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.4 blocks and 1.7 triples through 12 games with the Warriors this season.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic
Share:
5 months agoCleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson won't travel to practice at the team's facility. The Cavs have opened their practice facility, but Thompson won't be traveling to Cleveland. Thompson has a basketball court and weight room at this home, so he doesn't need the team's equipment. He is staying involved with the team via text or Zoom calls. Not every player has the same luxury as Thompson, but at least he's able to stay safe and continue to work out. It's unclear when the league is going to resume, but it appears Thompson is ready to go whenever the NBA returns.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: The Athletic

ERA Lie Detector: Finding 2019 Overachievers With SIERA (Part 1)

Skills-Interactive ERA (or SIERA) has been around since 2011 when it was introduced at Baseball Prospectus by Matt Swartz and Eric Seidman before moving to its current home at Fangraphs. Three Hitters Ready to Breakout Earlier Than Their Prime

The quickest path to a fantasy championship is to identify and select potential breakouts.
