6 months agoNew York Mets left-handed pitcher Steven Matz has been tabbed as the club’s starter Friday against Atlanta. Matz has battled both injuries and demotion throughout 2020, having posted an 8.63 ERA across six appearances (five starts). While Matz is a risky play in both DFS and season-long formats, his lone quality start this season came against the Braves on July 25 when he tossed six innings and allowed just two hits and one run. With Jacob deGrom (hamstring) currently day-to-day, Matz may be able to cement a rotation spot over the final week-plus with a strong showing Friday.--Jesse Borek - RotoBaller

6 months agoNew York Mets left-handed pitcher Steven Matz will not work out of the bullpen Wednesday against Philadelphia, primarily due to the fact that he could rejoin the club’s starting rotation this weekend versus Atlanta. Matz has made just one relief appearance since being removed from the starting staff due to the 9.00 ERA that he compiled in five starts. While his track record indicates that he should be able to flip the script on his 2020 woes eventually, Atlanta batters may see an increase in appeal should Matz in fact take the hill Saturday.
