7 months agoSan Diego Padres catcher Luis Torrens will be behind the dish Sunday catching Adrian Morejon against Houston. Torrens has now started back-to-back contests, with Austin Hedges sitting as he remains in an early season offensive malaise (.152/.220/.348). Yet to show much offensively at the Major League level, Torrens isn’t so much a fantasy asset as what his playing time indicates about Hedges, even with Francisco Mejia (thumb) out of the mix. With Zack Greinke on the mound, DFS owners can look elsewhere for catcher production Sunday.--Jesse Borek - RotoBaller

1 year agoSan Diego Padres catcher Luis Torrens has entered into a battle with Austin Hedges and Francisco Mejia for the starting position. "Right now it's Torrens, Mejia, and Hedges," Manager Jayce Tingler said. "I don't think much has really changed. The tough thing is, with three guys, making sure they're getting their at-bats." Mejia starting the spring 0-for-12 has let Torrens into the conversation to make the Opening Day roster while Hedges will likely make the team thanks to his defensive prowess. No matter who makes the roster, it seems the Padres will employ a timeshare behind the plate, not leaving enough at-bats for one catcher to be a viable fantasy option.--Jonathan Chan - Rotoballer
