5 months agoDetroit Tigers third baseman/shortstop Willi Castro (shoulder) exited Saturday’s contest versus Kansas City early due to a sore right shoulder. Prior to his departure, Castro collected an RBI hit, bringing his average on the season to .349 with 24 RBI. He has come on rapidly in September, making a case for American League Rookie of the Year honors with an OPS near 1.000 for the month. Any kind of injury at this stage of the year likely spells the end of 2020, so unless Castro makes a significant recovery in the next few hours ahead of Sunday’s afternoon tilt, he can likely began looking towards ‘21, where he should merit season-long league consideration after his impressive 36-game stretch.--Jesse Borek - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe Detroit Tigers called up infield prospect Willi Castro from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. The team's No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, Castro has a real opportunity to see regular playing time in the final month of the season after Niko Goodrum (groin) just went on the injured list. The 22-year-old switch-hitter was tearing it up on the farm, too, hitting .301/.366/.467 with 28 doubles, eight triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 119 games for Toledo. He's worth attention in AL-only leagues, at the very minimum, and he could be worth picking up in deeper leagues if he sees enough playing time.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
