Recent Update

6 months agoTexas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras was summoned from the alternate training site ahead of Monday’s game against Oakland and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Taveras, a 21-year-old switch-hitter, is ranked as the Rangers’ No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline. His best tool grades out as his glove, but he also has above-average ratings on his running ability. He is projected to bat leadoff Monday, and would figure to hold down the center field spot for Texas moving forward. He is mostly a speculative add in season-long formats, but he should be a DFS target out of the gates due to his price tag.--Jesse Borek - RotoBaller

7 months agoTexas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras has made the Opening Day Roster for the 2020 season. He is ranked by Baseball America as the third-best prospect in the organization. Taveras excels in the defensive aspects of the game, but his bat needs to improve to get in the starting lineup. Taveras batted .279/.344/.376 with five home runs and 32 stolen bases over 131 games last season between High-A Down and Double-A. It would take a major flop from another Rangers outfielder to get him regular at bats in this shortened season, but crazier things have happened. His speed could make him a situational base runner when needed. Unfortunately that doesn’t do a lot for fantasy managers. He is worth a stash in a deep keeper or dynasty league in the event that his bat catches up to his glove.--Euan Leith
