6 months agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama will reclaim the leadoff spot in the order for Friday’s contest versus the Cardinals and right-hander Adam Wainwright. Akiyama has not provided much pop during his first 40 big league games, with just five extra-base hits in that span. His last start in the leadoff spot came back on Aug. 28, but with Jesse Winker (back) and Mike Moustakas (foot) not in Friday’s lineup, Akiyama shifts up the order again, thereby giving him considerable DFS appeal. While Akiyama doesn’t provide much season-long appeal at this stage, he can be a strong punt play or stack option in DFS when batting in the top spot.--Jesse Borek - RotoBaller

6 months agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama went 1-for-2 with two walks, two steals, a run, and an RBI in an 8-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Akiyama's eighth-inning single brought Eugenio Suarez around to score in the eventual loss. Overall, the outfielder is hitting just .225 with zero homers, eight runs, five RBI, and six steals but he is starting to heat up at the plate. Over his last seven games, Akiyama is hitting .429 with five walks and three steals. He's not a must-add off waivers at this point but Akiyama is worth monitoring in case he stays hot going forward.--Matt Terelle - RotoBaller
