1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Fantasy Baseball Week 2

The 2022 season is officially off and running. While it’s still an extremely small sample size, there were some intriguing performances that caught my eye during the first week of the season.

There are definitely some new interesting names to keep an eye on as the regular season progresses.

Here are some corner infield options to consider on the waiver wire for week two of the fantasy baseball season.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including Best MLB Series, NFL Series, NBA Writer, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Connor Joe, Colorado Rockies

59% Rostered

Many flagged Joe as a late-round sleeper in drafts this season, and thus far he’s been putting up solid production. Joe was a nice piece for the Rockies towards the end of last season and locked in guaranteed playing time with a strong spring. Thus far he’s been taking advantage of it, and has actually been bumped up to the leadoff spot. Joe will certainly benefit from playing his home games in Colorado, and if he’s still there (that’s a very big if), is definitely a guy to grab off waivers.

Owen Miller, Cleveland Guardians

49% Rostered

It looks like Miller just might be running away with the starting first base job in Cleveland. In his first full year in the big leagues, the 25-year-old has gotten off to a red hot start at the plate. Miller has been a key power contributor in the heart of the Guardians lineup thus far this season. It’s fair to expect some regression, but Miller has a strong minor league track record and could be a solid young piece. Like Joe, if he’s still out there, take a chance on him before it’s too late.

Joey Wendle, Miami Marlins

14% Rostered

When the Marlins acquired Wendle this offseason, I thought for sure he could be looking like a really solid deep-league sleeper option for this season. So far, he has gotten off to a pretty strong start to the new campaign. Wendle has sat against lefties thus far this season, but if he continues hitting that way he has, he should find himself in the heart of that Marlins lineup on a relatively everyday basis.

Ji-Man Choi, Tampa Bay Rays

13% Rostered

Choi remains in a platoon at first base for the Rays, but when he’s out there he’s been absolutely crushing the ball. The left-handed slugger has gotten off to a red-hot start to the 2022 campaign for the Rays. When he’s in there he hits in the middle of the order and has been a reliable power bat. I wouldn’t run out to grab Choi right away, but he’s definitely a guy to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Maikel Franco, Washington Nationals

5% Rostered

It isn’t too long ago that Maikel Franco was a middle-of-the-order power bat manning the hot corner for the Phillies. From 2016-to-2019, he received everyday playing time and averaged 20-25 homers per season. Now with Washington, Franco should have every opportunity to play every day back in the NL East again. He’s gotten off to a strong start over the first week of the season and is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
