2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 5 Tight Ends (TE)

In this space, we will highlight recommended fantasy football waiver wire pickups to consider as candidates for Week Five of the 2013 fantasy football season, and your fantasy football rosters.

2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 5 Tight Ends

Charles ClayCharles Clay (TE, MIA) -  Clay has been a beast for the Dolphins this season, and he added to his resume by hauling in six catches for 42 yards with one touchdown against the Saints. He has in just four games caught 20 passes for 245 yards with two touchdowns. What's more, Clay is a true all-purpose offensive player, with a rushing touchdown to his credit already this season.  As Mike Wallace's role in the Dolphins' offense continues to diminish, look for Clay to pick up the slack and continue to put up solid fantasy numbers.  He is already a deep-league add, and if he continues to see more targets (especially in the red zone), he will quickly become a hot commodity in standard leagues as well.

Coby Fleener (TE, IND) - Fleener was great once again, catching five passes for 77 yards with a touchdown against the porous Jaguars defense.  He is proving to be a very solid fantasy tight end in the right matchups, so he is a guy who should certainly be on your radar for bye-week fill-in or injury replacement purposes.  He might have a difficult time replicating those strong Week Four numbers against a very good Seahawks defense, and it's important to note that he has not been one of Andrew Luck's regular targets, but you should monitor how his usage develops if you are in the market for a tight end.

Heath Miller (TE, PIT) - Miller had a good game taking on the Vikings, catching six passes for 70 yards. I know that Pittsburgh has not won a game, but don't let that cloud your judgement. Miller is Ben Roethlisberger's favorite receiver on the team and a veteran that has a nose for the football.  He finally seems fully healthy after undergoing off-season knee surgery, and as he solidifies his spot in the Steeler offense, he becomes an more attractive option as an every-week tight end in standard leagues, especially PPR formats where he should be able to consistently put up 10+ points week-in and week-out.

Kellen Winslow (TE, NYJ) - Winslow had fairly productive game against the Titans with six receptions for 73 yards. This is the second time in four weeks that he has caught at least six passes for 70 or more yards, but it's worth noting that he had two very disappointing performances in that span, as well. He is becoming one of Geno Smith's favorite targets, and since Jets receivers are dropping like flies, you can expect Winslow to see increased opportunities for receptions going forward.  The Week Five matchup in Atlanta is neutral, as the Falcons allow on average about five catches for 50 yards to opposing tight ends, but on the heels of a nine-target game against Tennessee, there should be opportunity for Winslow to rack up some solid fantasy numbers, especially for deeper PPR-league owners.  You could certainly do worse if you're looking to replace an injury or bye, but be aware that Winslow himself has dealt with knee issues in the past, so be sure that he is in the lineup before starting him on Sunday.
