Dynasty League Tight End Rankings: Top 10 for 2014

I previously looked at the top 15 quarterback rankings and top 30 running back rankings for dynasty and keeper leagues. Today I'll take a closer look at tight end rankings for 2014 fantasy football dynasty leagues, assuming both PPR and non-PPR formats. If you have a fresh dynasty league draft, these rankings are a good guideline for you to follow in valuing the players at the position.  If you're already in a dynasty league, you can refer to this ranking as a more general preseason valuation.

Honorable Mentions

10. Ladarius Green - He is super-fast for his position, but he is still really raw and can’t be counted on from week to week.

9. Kyle Rudolph - Great red zone target, but low upside.

8. Jordan Reed - His season-ending concussion last year should be a major concern, as he could be one hit away from being done. If that doesn’t happen, there is reason to hope he can be a top 5 TE in the league, given his athleticism.

7. Jason Witten - He’s the old man of the bunch now, and while he can’t go deep anymore, he’ll rack up yardage as a check-down machine.

6. Greg Olsen - Olsen is what he is at this point in his career, which is solid but unspectacular. I.E. pure mediocrity.

5. Jordan Cameron - Cameron came out of the gate like gangbusters last year, but failed to to maintain that level of play throughout the season. He tops this tier because his potential is higher than the others, and he’s got the best chance of reaching it.

Flawed with Upside

4. Rob Gronkowski - Other than perhaps Josh Gordon, no NFL player has a bigger dichotomy between his best and worst-case scenarios. GRONK’s best-case scenario is that he returns to form as the most dangerous tight end machine of all-time. His worst-case scenario is that he has a 3rd consecutive season-ending injury after you’ve blown a 3rd-round pick on him.

Only for the Right Price

3. Vernon Davis - Davis is a big-game player, and is one of only 4 TEs who can take over a game. Unfortunately he is all too often asked to block in that run-first offense.

2. Julius Thomas - Orange Julius is practically uncoverable. The thing that separates him from the truly great TEs of this and past eras is that he is not the focal point of his offense, and Demarius Thomas is ahead of him on the pecking order.

Untouchable

1. Jimmy Graham - His only foreseeable flaw is if he somehow becomes designated a wide receiver. He should be drafted ahead of all non-elite RBs, WRs and QBs.
