BALLER MOVE: Target Late in Deep, NL-Only Leagues
ANALYSIS: Last season, Eugenio Suarez broke into the big leagues with the Tigers in June, who struggled to find a consistent shortstop after losing Jose Iglesias in Spring Training. Suarez spent five seasons in the minors before getting the call last year. He showed the ability to get on base, with a career .361 OBP in the minors.
He appeared in 85 games in 2014, posting a .242 AVG with just four homers and 23 RBI in 244 AB. In June, however, Suarez put together a respectable .279/.364/.485 triple slash line. He walked in 11.25% of his plate appearances for the year, demonstrating plate discipline that many young hitters lack.
Suarez is with Reds now, and could see innings at both SS and 3B. even though he won’t be starting at either position. Suarez could be a nice addition in very deep or NL-Only leagues, as long as he is able to replicate his numbers from June through August of last season. He is a solid bench option for this year, and a player with the potential to become a consistent big-league hitter in the future.
