BALLER MOVE: Target in Round 15-17
ANALYSIS: Collin McHugh started the 2014 season in Triple-A, having posted an 0-8 record and an 8.94 ERA for his career, but an early injury to Scott Feldman led to McHugh's recall. A seemingly temporary move turned into 25 starts, during which he went 11-9 with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, a 9.1 K/9 ratio and a 3.83 K/BB rate. His strikeout rate was the ninth best in baseball among qualifiers, and his .205 BAA ranked seventh. In 2014, he threw his fastball just 40% of the time, yet his 10.8% SwStk% was above league average. This shows that McHugh doesn’t need to rely sole upon his 91 MPH fastball, as he has several other quality pitches. An improving offense should give McHugh more than 4.20 runs of support, and the additions of Luke Gregerson and Pat Neshek to the Astros' bullpen will help McHugh secure more wins. McHugh will likely provide equal or greater value than some bigger names, on the board, so I would be satisfied with grabbing McHugh in rounds 15-17 on the chance he replicates his 2014 success.
