Position, Team, NFL Draft Spot: QB, New England Patriots, 3.29
Dynasty Positional Rank: 40+
Redraft Target Round: Unranked, not viable for 2016
Analysis: Brissett was the fifth quarterback taken in the draft. He went higher than Connor Cook and Cardale Jones, who were both projected to be off the board long before Brissett. The Patriots were not going to pass him up, though, as they selected him with one of the last picks in the third round.
Brissett is not going to be a factor this season, and he should not be picked in redraft leagues. With that being said, there is a slim chance he finds the field this season. Tom Brady is suspended for the first four games, and Brissett would have to start if Jimmy Garoppolo were to sustain an injury. In that situation, Brissett would make a good option off the waiver wire, but again, he isn’t someone that should be selected in redraft leagues.
Garoppolo is nearing the end of his rookie deal, which means the Patriots will likely be trying to trade him, which will open up the backup job to Jacoby Brissett. Still, he will be stuck behind Tom Brady and will need an injury to see the field. Brissett has good tools for the NFL and he should be able to develop behind one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but Brissett is only an option if you can wait a few years on a pick in your type of dynasty league. Other than that, he shouldn’t be drafted.
