Position, Team, NFL Draft Spot: WR, Cincinnati Bengals, 2.24
Dynasty Positional Rank: 61
Redraft Target Round: Mid- to late-round selection
Analysis: Wide receiver was one of the biggest needs for the Cincinnati Bengals heading into the NFL Draft. They missed out of the top four wide receivers in the first round and opted to draft a cornerback. They wouldn’t wait much longer, though, as they selected Tyler Boyd in the second round.
Boyd was as productive of a receiver as anyone in college, as he recorded 254 catches for 3,361 yards and 21 touchdowns in only three seasons. He also ran for 520 yards and a touchdown, while contributing in the return game, as well. He has a fairly easy path to the starting job opposite A.J. Green, as he only needs to beat out players like Brandon LaFell and Brandon Tate. He should have no problems doing that in his rookie season, as he is already a good route runner with exceptional hands. Boyd should have an immediate role for the Bengals, but he’ll still be behind Green and Eifert, so expectations in re-draft leagues shouldn’t be too high as of now.
Boyd’s role in the offense should continue to go as he builds trust with Andy Dalton. That may not happen in his first season, though, as Dalton already has great trust in Green and Eifert. Boyd will never be more than the second wide receiver on a team, but Marvin Jones was able to record a 65-816-4 stat line for the Bengals last season, which shows that Boyd does have decent upside in dynasty leagues. He isn’t a receiver that you should overpay for, though, as he will be stuck behind A.J. Green for the early years of his career and he lacks the upside of other rookie wide receivers in dynasty leagues.
