BALLER MOVE: Target ~290
CURRENT ADP: 310
ANALYSIS: Mike Montgomery was acquired by the Cubs last season and filled a very important role in their World Series run. He was mainly used out of the bullpen, earning the save in Game 7 to clinch the series. Throughout the minors, though, he had been a starter, and he will be stretched out this offseason to help Chicago's rotation. He will need to compete with the oft-injured Brett Anderson for the fifth starting spot, but has a good chance to win the role if he pitches at the level of which he is capable.
Montgomery has an elite changeup to go along with a solid cutter and curveball, and his ability to mis his pitches and induce soft contact (25.5 percent hard hit rate) allowed him to post an outside contact rate of 56.3 percent, which was top-10 among qualified starters. Montgomery is an interesting late-round option even though he doesn't strike out a ton of hitters.
