Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the Sunday, July 21st edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 21st. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Masahiro Tanaka w/the tainted W. (6IP, 5ER)
  • DJ LeMahieu still holding strong w/third-best AVG behind Jeff McNeil(.345) & Christian Yelich(.337).
  • Manuel Margot has taken to the two-hole (.286AVG)
  • THUNDER! A couple of extra stamps needed for that 468ft special delivery from Fernando Tatis Jr.(16).
  • Once a Heaney, always a Heaney. Andrew Heaney to the IL w/shoulder inflammation. Did we get enough value for the wait? Likely not.
  • Kevin Kiermaier was doing what we all hoped. 10HR/17SB. Left thumb sprain will derail things.
  • Catch a glimpse of Pete Alonso so you have memories of this historic season. A rookie en route to the HR Crown. He sits at 33.
  • Alonso is not the only Mets 1B that can hit, Dominic Smith thankful for the live ball. 10HR, .293AVG.
  • Ryan Yarbrough & Lucas Giolito w/pitchers duel. Neither gets the W, but in my biased opinion, the winner is YAR-BRUH!
  • Avisail Garcia admires his 459ft rainbow(13), as we all should.
  • A crazy week for Danny Jansen included six HR. No, not now. That’s old news. 0HR, .237AVG since July 5th. Bounce-back? Maybe rollercoaster-back is what they meant.
  • The drought as ended, in delicious fashion. Vlad Guerrero Jr. sits down and orders the Grand Slam!
  • Was Ken Giles hurt? 14th save. Healthy enough to be traded.
  • Joe Musgrove silences Phillies. 6IP, 0ER, 8K. Cardinals next.
  • Josh Bell relaxing while Starling Marte does the work. Bell w/0HR, .143AVG in last two weeks. That’s too long. Getting antsy.
  • Mookie Betts adds to his MLB-leading run total(88) & 15th tater.
  • Game was filled w/fireworks. Rafael Devers w/413ft moonshot(20) & a 400ft fly ball out. Jackie Bradley Jr. ordered two.
  • Best Orioles bat: Renato Nunez (22HR, 54RBI, .246AVG) or Trey Mancini (19HR, 44RBI, .287)?
  • Jose Urquidy looked like a different guy. 7IP, 1ER, 9K. Cardinals next.
  • Yuli Gurriel w/18th juicy steak that matches his career-high. Still only 82% owned. Take advantage of the unknowing in those leagues and scoop him up.
  • There is no one hotter the last couple weeks than Ramon Laureano. 15R, 5HR, 7RBI, 2SB, .529AVG. Next milestone - 25/15 club, which isn’t even ambitious at this point. 71% owned = someone is sleeping.
  • Mitch Garver w/17HR & 2.4WAR. Jealous w/my one share.
  • Ronald Acuna is stealing bases almost daily & there is very little anyone can do. 23HR, 21SB, .293AVG. 30/30 club, here we come. Well, not me as I don’t own him.
  • Trea Turner up to seventh in SB(20) in 30 fewer games.
  • Mike Moustakas mashed his 26th tater. Does this mean he will have to fight for another one-year deal? Shenanigans.
  • “Yeah, Shohei Ohtani probably won’t run to prevent him from injuring himself.” Seven SB later.
  • Mike Trout’s 31st HR(416-footer) helps him to a tie for best average distance (229ft). A Joey Gallo holds the other half of the title.
  • Clayton Kershaw was marvelous. 6IP, 0ER, 10K. Sure he got a couple of calls his way. Who cares? What? I don’t care that it was the Marlins!!!
  • Have a great Sunday. Enjoy the day. Take a drive to enjoy the fresh air.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
