Martin Perez Agrees With Rangers
3 years agoThe Texas Rangers agreed to a deal with free-agent left-hander Martin Perez on Friday, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the situation. MLB Network's Jon Heyman is reporting that the deal is worth $4 million for the 2022 season. Perez became a free agent when the Boston Red Sox declined his $6 million option for this year back in November. The 30-year-old mostly struggled in Beantown with a 4.74 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 114 innings over 36 outings (22 starts) for Boston. Perez will be returning to Texas, where he spent the first seven seasons of his career. Depending on what other arms the Rangers add in free agency (Clayton Kershaw perhaps), Perez could have a shot at the back end of Texas' rotation to open the 2022 season, but he won't be a particularly attractive fantasy option.
