Chiefs Expected To Trade Or Release Frank Clark
3 years agoThe expectation around the league is that the Kansas City Chiefs will either trade or release defensive end Frank Clark. If he's not traded or released, his contract must be reworked, and his $26.3 million salary cap hit is a tough sell for the Chiefs. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler lists the San Francisco 49ers as a potential new home for Clark. The 28-year-old has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last three years, but he's had declining sack totals each year since 2018, his last with the Seattle Seahawks. In 14 regular season games in 2021, Clark had only 22 tackles (15 solo), four tackles for loss, 17 QB hits, two forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks. Releasing Clark would create $13.6 million in dead money this year, but if they designate him as a post-June cut, the Chiefs can save $19.5 million ($6.8 million in dead cash).
