Braves Agree On Eight-Year Extension With Matt Olson
3 years agoAfter trading for first baseman Matt Olson on Monday, the Atlanta Braves moved quickly to sign him to an eight-year, $168 million contract extension on Tuesday, according to sources. Olson, who is an Atlanta native, is now locked up two years before he was scheduled to become a free agent. Freddie Freeman won't be back in Atlanta, but Olson is pretty darn good consolation prize for the World Series champions. The 27-year-old lefty slugger had a .371 on-base percentage last year with the Oakland Athletics and also had a career-high 37 home runs. Not only is Olson one of the premier power hitters in the game, but he's a two-time Gold Glove winner. He's easily a top-five fantasy option at first base, and the move to Atlanta is a big upgrade over Oakland.
