3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs signed free-agent relief pitcher Chris Martin to a one-year deal that guarantees him $2.5 million, according to a source. He'll have $500,000 in performance bonuses and a $250,000 roster bonus. The 35-year-old right-hander will work in a setup role in Chicago's bullpen, but he could have a shot at save chances if Rowan Wick falters in the ninth-inning role in 2022. Martin only struck out 6.9 hitters per nine innings in 43 1/3 innings for the Atlanta Braves last year, but he had a decent 3.95 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and one save in his 46 appearances. There will be better speculative closing options to take with late-round fliers in fantasy leagues, but Martin could become a waiver-wire pickup during the season if he surpasses Wick on the bullpen depth chart.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
