Packers Re-Sign Robert Tonyan
3 years agoThe Green Bay Packers re-signed tight end Robert Tonyan to an undisclosed one-year deal on Saturday that includes a voidable year. Tonyan tore his ACL in Week 8 of last season but is hoping to be ready to go for the start of the regular season in 2022. Before the injury, he caught 18 of his 29 targets for 204 yards and two touchdowns. The 27-year-old broke out in 2020 when he caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns on 59 targets over 16 games (eight starts). The Packers also have Marcedes Lewis and Josiah Deguara at the position, but Tonyan will continue to be the top pass-catching tight end, when healthy. He's unlikely to match his 11 touchdowns from the 2020 season, but Tonyan can be a valuable low-end, touchdown-dependent TE1 in the right matchups.
