Matt Chapman Agrees To Two-Year Extension
3 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays and third baseman Matt Chapman have agreed to a two-year, $25 million contract extension on Tuesday, according to sources. The Blue Jays buy out Chapman's final two years of arbitration with the new deal after acquiring him from the Oakland Athletics in a trade. The 28-year-old will receive a $1 million signing bonus and will have salaries of $12 million in 2022 and 2023, per MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Chapman's defense is among the best in the league at the hot corner, but he's struggled at the plate the last two years and hit just .210/.314/.403 with 27 home runs and 72 RBI in 622 plate appearances over 151 games in his final season with the A's. But with the move to a stacked Blue Jays lineup and a much better hitting environment, Chapman's fantasy stock is on the rise.
