Austin Meadows Avoids Arbitration
3 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays and outfielder Austin Meadows avoided salary arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $4 million deal. Meadows could still be on the move in a trade before the start of the season. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter batted .234/.315/.458 with 27 home runs, 106 RBI and 79 runs scored in 591 plate appearances over 142 games for the Rays in his fourth year with the club in 2021. In order to fully bounce back this year for whichever team he's playing for, Meadows will need to be better against lefties, but he did cut down on his strikeout rate from 32.9% in 2020 to 20.6% last season. If he continues to struggle against southpaws, he could find himself in a platoon role, which would obviously be bad for his fantasy value.
