Mets Settle With Pete Alonso
3 years agoThe New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso agreed to a one-year, $7.4 million deal on Tuesday to avoid salary arbitration. The Mets also avoided arbitration with pitcher Trevor Williams ($3.9 million) , reliever Seth Lugo ($3.925 million) and infielder Jeff McNeil ($3 million). Alonso cut down on his strikeout rate in 2021 and finished with a .262/.344/.519 slash line with an .863 OPS, 37 home runs, 94 RBI and 81 runs scored in 637 plate appearances over 152 games played. The right-handed hitter's power metrics of exit velocity, barrel rate and hard-hit rate all supported the fact that he remains a great source of power at first base in fantasy drafts. Alonso could certainly hit 40-plus home runs and drive in 100-plus runs in an improved Mets lineup.
