3 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo avoided salary arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $7.35 million deal, according to a source. Castillo has dealt with some shoulder soreness in camp, which could cause him to miss Opening Day. The 29-year-old right-hander has advanced to long toss, but he'll need to get back on the mound soon if he wants to be in the Opening Day rotation. He underwhelmed in 2021 by going 8-16 with a 3.98 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, a 23.9% strikeout rate and a 9.3% walk rate in a league-high 33 starts covering 187 2/3 innings pitched, but Castillo pitched much better down the stretch and can be a nice bounce-back target as an SP3 for fantasy managers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
