3 years agoCincinnati Reds shortstop Jose Barrero (hand) had successful surgery on the hamate bone in his left hand and is expected to be out for six weeks. Barrero was hoping to compete for the starting job at shortstop to open the season, but that will now be Kyle Farmer's job early in 2022. The 23-year-old has hit just .197/.242/.248 with no home runs and five RBI in 124 plate appearances over his first 45 big-league games the last two years in Cincinnati, but he could earn some playing time at the 6 eventually over Farmer once he's fully healthy. Barrero can probably be ignored in shallow mixed leagues this season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
