49ers To Be Patient With Jimmy Garoppolo
3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers are likely to remain patient with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and seem willing to hold onto him for a while to allow him to get healthy and to see if any trade scenarios materialize. Garoppolo is in the final year of his contract and has a $26.9 million salary cap hit, so any teams interested in trading for him will want to make sure his shoulder is good to go for 2022. The 30-year-old underwent surgery in early March and is expected to need roughly 16 weeks to complete his rehab, so he may not be dealt for a while and is most likely to miss the offseason program. The 49ers surely want to trade Jimmy G and capitalize now, but if they are forced to hang onto him, it would also give Trey Lance more time to develop.
