Adam Wainwright Will Start On Opening Day
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright will start on Opening Day on April 7 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 40-year-old right-hander will get the nod with Jack Flaherty set to open the year on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Wainwright has been very solid for the Cardinals the last two seasons and had a 17-7 record, 3.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a 174:50 K:BB in 32 starts over 206 1/3 innings last season. He doesn't have elite velocity, but Wainwright continues to induce weak contact and keeps the ball in the yard. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Wainwright to be better than he's been the last two seasons, but he can at least provide rotation stability and potentially another double-digit win season.
