Nick Ahmed Battling Shoulder Discomfort
3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) is dealing with discomfort in his right shoulder, the same shoulder that caused him to miss the final two weeks of last season. He has had a platelet-rich plasma injection and a cortisone shot and will have an MRI exam to see where things stand. Ahmed may need to go under the knife, which obviously would put him out to begin the 2022 regular season. The 32-year-old was projected to open the year as Arizona's starting shortstop, but that job may now fall to Geraldo Perdomo, depending on the outcome of his MRI exam. Ahmed slashed .221/.280/.339 with five home runs, 38 RBI, 46 runs and seven stolen bases in 473 plate appearances in his eighth season with the D-backs in 2021.
