Evan Longoria To Have Surgery Tuesday
3 years agoThe San Francisco Giants said that third baseman Evan Longoria (finger) will have surgery on Tuesday to fix a ligament in his right index finger. Longoria's prognosis will be determined after his surgery, but the expectation is that his finger will be immobilized for at least 10 days. The 36-year-old will not be ready for the start of the regular season, and it's a blow to an aging veteran whose fantasy stock was already on the decline. With Longoria set to open the season on the injured list, expect to see Wilmer Flores and Thairo Estrada split playing time at the hot corner in San Francisco until Longoria returns. The former Tampa Bay Ray hit .261/.351/.482 with 13 home runs, 46 RBI and 45 runs scored in just 81 games for the Gigantes in his fourth season with the team last year.
