3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers have been open about their interest in shopping quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) ahead of the 2022 season in an attempt to make Trey Lance the unquestioned QB1. But the trade market hasn't been as fruitful as anticipated, which led head coach Kyle Shanahan to say Tuesday that he could see a scenario where Garoppolo opens the year with San Francisco. Garoppolo underwent shoulder surgery earlier in March, which has thrown his trade value into flux. While it certainly seems that if both open the year in scarlet and gold, Lance would be the starter, Shanahan declined to name who would open games under center. While a trade may improve Garoppolo's fantasy stock, another year under center in San Fran -- no matter how improbable -- may help him retain some value, although primarily in two-QB formats.--Jesse Borek
