Corbin Burnes Named Opening Day Starter
3 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes will start on Opening Day on April 7 against the Chicago Cubs on the road, according to manager Craig Counsell. Burnes won the National League Cy Young in 2021 by going 11-5 with a league-leading 2.43 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, a 35.6% strikeout rate and a career-low 5.2% walk rate in 28 starts over 167 innings pitched. His 1.63 FIP, 2.00 xERA and 2.30xFIP all supported his fantastic season, and he should be drafted as a fantasy ace with his ability to induce plenty of swings and misses while also limiting the free passes. A road outing to begin the year in Chicago isn't the easiest task, but fantasy managers should consider Burnes a must-start to kick off the year.
