Gerrit Cole Strikes Out Five In Final Spring Tuneup
3 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings of work in a 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers in Grapefruit League action on Friday. Cole struck out five in what will be his final start of the spring with Opening Day approaching on Thursday. The Yankees have yet to make an official announcement as to who will be their Opening Day starter in Yankee Stadium against the Boston Red Sox, but it is expected to be Cole. He made just two starts this spring, allowing four earned runs over 5 1/3 innings of work. The 31-year-old remains a top starting pitcher in the league and should be one of the first hurlers off the board in fantasy drafts.
