Matt Brash Wins Rotation Spot
3 years agoThe Seattle Mariners announced on Saturday that right-hander Matt Brash has secured a spot in the starting rotation to open the regular season. Brash has never pitched above Double-A, so fantasy managers should expect some growing pains in his first major league action this year. The 23-year-old Canadian was great last year between High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas, going 6-4 with a 2.31 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, 142 strikeouts and 48 walks in 97 1/3 innings over 20 outings (19 starts). If Brash doesn't improve on his 11.9% walk rate, he could find himself back in the minor leagues very quickly. At best, he'll be a consideration for rotation depth in deep AL-only leagues.
