3 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Robert Suarez was called upon in the ninth inning to close out the team's 2-0 lead over the Diamondbacks, but was unable to record an out before getting the hook. The right-hander walked the first two batters he faced on a combined nine pitches before issuing a wild pitch, and then a hit-by-pitch before manager Bob Melvin removed him from the game. Craig Stammen couldn't stop the bleeding either by throwing a wild pitch of his own before giving up a walk-off three-run homer. Perhaps the stakes were a bit too high for Suarez's first big-league appearance, but better days will undoubtedly be ahead for the 31-year-old. He will have to earn back his managers trust before getting a high leverage role again, but newly acquired Taylor Rogers will handle closing duties moving forward regardless.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
