Red Sox, Rafael Devers Won't Reach An Extension
3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox and third baseman Rafael Devers will not reach a contract extension before the start of the regular season. Devers is under contract through the next two seasons, but he said this offseason that he won't discussion a long-term extension during the year. With shortstop Xander Bogaerts in a similar situation and likely to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract to become a free agent after this season, the 2022 campaign could be the last with both Devers and Bogaerts on the left side of Boston's infield. Devers, 25, is one of the best all-around hitters in the game, regardless of the fact that he doesn't have an extension in hand before Opening Day on Friday against New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.
