3 years agoNew York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole allowed three runs over four innings in a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings on Friday. Cole struck out three and walked one in his team's Opening Day game. The veteran right-hander threw 68 pitches in the outing, a no-decision. He gave up all three of his runs in the first inning via a Rafael Devers two-run homer and a J.D. Martinez RBI double. Cole, like most starting pitchers on Opening Day, did not have enough time to get his arm fully stretched out thanks to an abbreviated spring, so he didn't work very deep into the game. He should have a slightly longer leash next time he takes the mound, which will be at home against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.--Matt T - RotoBaller
