3 years agoPittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said that shortstop Kevin Newman (groin) went through defense and sprints on Sunday, and the GM expressed optimism that Newman would be back in the lineup on Monday against Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Eric Lauer. Newman missed his third straight game on Sunday against the Washington Nationals. Fantasy managers have probably been wondering if the Pirates would bring up top shortstop prospect Oneil Cruz, but that looks like it won't happen just yet. Newman carries very little fantasy value and is hitting just .217 with no home runs, five RBI and one run scored in his first six games in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
