Trevor Story Leading Off, J.D. Martinez Out Thursday
3 years agoBoston Red Sox second baseman Trevor Story (head) is playing second base and leading off for the Red Sox on Thursday against Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Story was hit in the head by a pitch on Wednesday, but he passed the league's concussion protocol and will hit leadoff for the first time with Boston. The 29-year-old is still searching for his first home run and stolen base this year and is sporting a 33.3% strikeout rate through his first eight games. Outfielder/designated hitter J.D. Martinez was pulled from the game with groin tightness on Wednesday and was expected to miss Thursday's contest, although he's not expected to need a trip to the injured list. Rafael Devers is the DH against Toronto, while Bobby Dalbec will start at third base and Travis Shaw will play first base.
