Falcons Release Mike Davis
3 years agoThe Atlanta Falcons released running back Mike Davis on Monday, according to a source. The move saves the Falcons $2.5 million against the salary cap this year. Cordarrelle Patterson was by far the team's most effective backfield option last year, as Davis had 138 carries for 503 yards (3.6 yards per carry) and three rushing touchdowns in his first and only year in Atlanta. The Falcons have Damien Williams as a backup option behind Patterson, and they also drafted Tyler Allgeier in last week's draft in the fifth round. Davis had a career-high 165 carries for 642 yards and six touchdowns while also catching 59 passes for 373 yards and two more TDs in 2020 with the Carolina Panthers when Christian McCaffrey was injured, but he proved last year that he's not a full-time, three-down back in the NFL.
