Kyle Trask Not Expected To Compete For Backup Role
3 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers second-year quarterback Kyle Trask is not expected to compete with Blaine Gabbert for the backup role behind Tom Brady this year. "It's more of a learning curve. I don't see him competing with Gabbert this year. I see Gabbert being the backup and Kyle being the developmental guy," quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen said. The Bucs took Trask in the second round in 2021 out of the University of Florida, but he's still in development mode going into his second season in the NFL. It remains to be seen how much longer Brady will continue playing after a brief retirement this offseason, but even when Brady hangs them up for good, there's no guarantee that Trask will be the guy under center in Tampa.
